Airsense 11 vs Airsense 10 - Thomas021923 - 04-16-2024

I have been using the Airsense 11 for 2 years, trying different settings (pressure, CPAP, APAP, EPR, humidity) but was not feeling better even though the AHI scores is below 5. Then I got the Airsense 10 and started feeling better with similar AHI scores. I was just using a basic constant CPAP pressure setting. I tried the same setting and mask back on the Airsense 11 and again felt worst. Can anyone explain why this is?

No disrespect, but it could be attributed to confirmation bias, the tendency of people to favor information that confirms or strengthens their beliefs or values and is difficult to dislodge once affirmed. For some subjective reason, you have come to the conclusion that you felt better using the AirSense 10. It could be a coincidence, but it is hard to tell because of all the confounding factors:  other unmeasured or unnoted variables that influence both the supposed cause and effect. Of course, there could be real differences between the machines like motor strength, noise level, water chamber levels, etc.

My advice is to stick with what makes you feel the best, for whatever reason, and accept "yes" as the answer.

Hello and thank you for your reply. I don't think it was confirmation bias because I actually had a positive bias towards the Airsense 11 since it is the latest model. In fact, it took me a year after I got the Airsense 10 to realize this may be the problem. In that one year, I actually did not use the Airsense 10 that much. I was primarily still using the Airsense 11. I just thought I had figured out a good setting on the Airsense 10. So I came coming back to the Airsense 11. The idea that it could be a problem with the Airsense 11 didn't occur to me till a few weeks ago which is more than 2 years after consistently using the Airsense 11.

Has anyone else tried used the Airsense 11 after the Airsense 10? Could there be a problem with my particular Airsense 11 that I could check for?

My concern is that I expect Resmed to stop making the Airsense 10 one day. So if my issue with is with all Airsense 11, then I have a real problem in the future until they come out with the Airsense 12. But then I may also have the same issue with the next model if it is based on the Airsense 11.

When offered the chance for a free Airsense 11, I took a pass and selected the Airsense 10. I think the next step would be to download and install the latest version of OSCAR and post some charts for both machines. Forum members have been quite adept to sleuthing out subtle anomalies and providing effective suggestions.

I had always believed that the 11 was a work in progress and a “gamified” response to the failures of Respironics and the need to grab market share.

Good luck on your sleep journey.

Here are Oscar data on back to back days.

Your Ins/Exp ratio changed dramatically, which is worse with the A11. You might want to see the flow curves in detail. It can be some reading glich.

Hi Szabo, thanks for the reply. Let me try to understand. I assume you are looking at the Insp and Exp times. I checked data for the past few months of use and they are consistently similar to what I posted so I don't think it is a data error. With the same settings on both machines, would you be able to speculate on a cause? Thanks again.

Would you mind posting the flow curves (high resolution)  for the two devices?

The two devices must have the same settings. Select periods within which the max pressures are the same. Also, move the mask pressure curve below the flow rates in the high-resolution plots.

Thanks again Szabo, I hope the enclosed are what you wanted otherwise just tell me what to change. These are zoomed in versions of what I posted this morning. Setting on both machines are the same.
