CPAP use after root canal - EmilySleeps - 04-28-2024 I had a root canal procedure in a lower molar a few days ago and have developed tremendous pain in my jaw and radiating down the side of my neck. I use a full face mask, and I'm wondering if the mask straps pressing on me could be causing the pain. I couldn't sleep due to the pain last night and took off the mask - that's when this hypothesis occurred to me. Any insights / similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. RE: CPAP use after root canal - OpalRose - 04-28-2024 The straps could be pressing on a nerve somewhere. Do you have another style mask to wear? If the pain continues, circle back and let your dentist know. RE: CPAP use after root canal - PeaceLoveAndPizza - 04-28-2024 You may have a dry socket. I have been there as well and it is no fun. No fun at all. Give this a read as it may help. Rinsing with salt water helped me, but in the end I had to go back to get it treated again. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/dry-socket/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20354382 RE: CPAP use after root canal - HalfAsleep - 04-28-2024 IMO this depends on where the root canal is located. Plus, there's trial and error. I have facial pain. I would prefer not to have a strap that crosses along my jaw line. Currently, I use an F40 and pretty much love it, but there's that strap.... So, I begged for a nasal mask. You'd think this would be a no-brainer, and it would eliminate a bunch of the facial pain, correct? Haha, 2 minutes into the nasal mask, and I have pain shooting down the trigeminal nerve. I whipped it off as fast as I could, but it still killed my whole day. Moral: I'm sticking to my F40, jaw strap and all. In your position, this is what I would do: --Top priority: contact the endodontist and find out if the pain needs attention. --Use icy gel packs --wrap the jaw straps on the mask with something soft, even if temporarily; if a longer issue, get Pad-a-Cheeks or something similar. --IMO you might have to forego CPAP for a few days, unless you have a severe case of OSA. IMO root canal pain will mess with breathing and swallowing anyway, because it kind of dominates. --get a little movement going in your upper back, so tight muscles aren't tugging on neck and jaw muscles. I often apply icy gel pack to my thoracic spine when I have neck, face, and jaw pain. Good luck! |
