BIG change in AHI almost overnight - alanbc - 05-27-2024

I bought a Resmed 11 a few months back to replace an old Philips.

I actually thought I slept better the first night!   But by night three, it felt about the same.  The AHI number (which I'm told is important) was about 5 on both machines, some nights 7 or 8, but most nights 5.

This last Friday it was 17. Saturday night it was 24.  And last night, it was 42!

This probably isn't good.

I should add that I have an AFib problem that's also gotten MUCH worse in the last two weeks, which may be relevant.  (Damned coincidental if it's not related.)

Sadly, I have no professionals anywhere close to turn to .. the closest sleep center is booking two weeks out and requires significant travel hassles to get there.

So I turn to this group.

I use a mouth and nose mask, as allergies (hay fever) frequently leave me unable to breathe through my nose.  It's pretty new, as it came with the machine.

I have the machine set to "auto".

And I go through water at a ridiculous rate, the tank being emptied in about 3 hours.

I don't know what else to say.

Any hints or suggestions?  Has my machine failed in some way?

Any thoughts appreciated.

It'd be helpful it you'd post the Oscar chart from last night. I'd also strongly recommend that you immediately get in touch with your cardiologist about the increased AFib symptoms.

I'll see about "the Oscar chart", Oscar being some software I assume?

And I've already been in touch with the AFib specialist.  As a result, I've discontinued one of the many meds I'm on, the scary one, and will start on an even scarier one tomorrow.

Yes, OSCAR is free, safe to use. You actually list it as your software you use.

Don't know why ...

No memory of ever using it.

Mind you, I don't remember breakfast, so "no memory" has a different meaning when I say it than when others do.

OK, I think I've got it.  Three screenshots.  One from last night, where I'd set a fixed pressure (I forgot) and a high AHI, one from the night before where it was in automatic mode and also had a high AHI and one from a week ago, also automatic and decently low AHI.

Please move the graphs around so that we can see all and only these:

Events
Flow rate
Pressure
Leaks
Flow limitations
Snores.

Thanks.

Also, in the chart for 5/26, would you zoom in to about 20 minutes someplace within the span of all those CAs? I'd like to see what they look like.

you have a serious leak issue (large leak events), doubt much of the numbers are very accurate. 90%, 85% & 55% of the time you are above the leak threshold the machine can handle. it's also why the tank is emptying in 3h you're trying to humidify your entire room Big Grin

what mask are you using? how long have you had it? are you sure the humidifier is plugged in properly? what happens when you run a mask seal test?

Sorry, I followed the instructions from the Wiki page.

I'll try again. Maybe from a different computer with a bigger screen.
