Chin strap question - jake79 - 06-06-2024

I have the ResMed standard chin strap and despite not wearing it very tight I feel like it's making my teeth and jaw sore.  My leaks are zero every night so it works at least but I'm sure there are better options out there.  I've heard the Knightsbridge is good but that looks like a lot to have on my head.  Mouth taping gives me anxiety thinking about it and I tried a cervical collar but I am broad shouldered so when I lay down on my side it jams tightly into my jawline.  Any other suggestions?

Also, I keep trying to sleep without the strap but always get startled awake by an open mouth. Is there a way to train yourself to keep your mouth shut?

Thanks!

There is a method called "tongue suck".  It is pretty simple you put your tongue on the top of your mouth and give a little suction to hold in place. It should seal off the back of your throat to stop mouth leaks.

You have to train your tongue to stay there when you are asleep though.  You do that by doing it during the day time and you keep doing it and after a while your tongue is just naturally stays on the top of your mouth blocking the air from going in and out of the mouth.

Give this method a try.
