MODE Question - Big Guy - 07-11-2024

I was nosing around in the Clinical Menu of my AirSense 10 AutoSet machine.

In the MODE section, I have the choice of being in the CPAP mode or the AutoSet Mode. It's been in the CPAP Mode for as long as I've had the machine (Sept. 11, 2018).

Do I leave it there, or should I be in the AutoSet Mode?

What is the difference?

RE: MODE Question - Crimson Nape - 07-11-2024

CPAP mode uses a static pressure only. The AutoSet mode allows for a pressure range, thus allowing you only the pressure level you currently need. With that said, some people (me!) are sensitive to pressure changes. I have to keep my setting with in a 2 cm range, or it disrupts my sleep (Big Time!).

Using AutoSet mode can also lead to more CA events. If you're getting good results with CPAP mode, there's no reason to change it.

Thank you all for the responses. They are much appreciated. Smile

I much prefer Apap mode as it allows the machine to meet my changing needs during the course of each night.  The panel beside your posts shows that you use a range of 6-12.  Is that not correct?  In any case, you can try it in Cpap mode and in Apap mode with a range of pressure to see which is more comfortable for you.  Most of us like the range of pressure, but some notice the pressure changes too much and it wakes them up.  Therapeutically, Apap provides the best individualized pressures, but if the changes cause you to wake up then use Cpap mode.

RE: MODE Question - Big Guy - 07-11-2024

I'm gonna give the AutoSet Mode a try tonight and see if I can tell any difference. I'm now curious.  Cool

RE: MODE Question - Deborah K. - 07-11-2024

I suggest you set your range to 8-15.  I think that should be comfortable for you.  If not, you can raise or lower it until it provides good therapy and comfort. Smile

RE: MODE Question - Big Guy - 07-11-2024

I set it to AutoSet Mode and see the pressure range was 4-20, vs. the CPAP Mode of pressure range that I had set @ 6-12.

It should prove to be an interesting night.............. Bigwink

I gave it some thought and I liked the suggestion of your pressure range better than the one that showed up on the screen.

8-15 it is.  Smile

RE: MODE Question - Phaleronic - 07-11-2024

I've titrated on both modes (APAP and CPAP)-cpap is far superior for comfort and therapy for myself-and others. I'd like to see a chart though Smile APAP is really a titration mode-as it causes arousals and micro-arousals that cpap mode does not.

RE: MODE Question - Narcil - 07-12-2024

did you try it ? Smile your post inspired my to try my titrated pressure in cpap mode and it was perfectly fine. think i'll keep this going for now..

attaching a pic if interested..
