tirzepatide - eok361 - 07-17-2024 Has anyone read about this study? Having lost 45 pounds in the last year, I am no longer categorized as obese, but this looks interesting/promising. https://www.theguardian.com/society/article/2024/jun/21/weight-loss-drug-could-ease-sleep-apnoea-in-people-with-obesity-study-says RE: tirzepatide - Narcil - 07-17-2024 just typical premature hype from journalists. it's still very early and it was just one not peer reviewed study done by the drug manufacturer on clinically obese patients. i'd wait for credible data before getting excited. Quote:In an accompanying editorial, Dr. Sanjay Patel, a sleep medicine specialist at the University of Pittsburgh, cautioned that whether tirzepatide can treat sleep apnea in real-world patients “remains unclear” because of the way improvement is measured.https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/weight-loss-drug-zepbound-may-help-treat-sleep-apnea-improve-blood-pre-rcna158370 the study showed a 50% reduction in ahi, great so you still need cpap?... RE: tirzepatide - Weld3z - 07-18-2024 It works to reduce weight but not sure if it reduces sleep apnea later, outside the USA they call it Mounjaro I'm on my third week with the 5mg little side effects but not that bad. RE: tirzepatide - silverdr - 07-18-2024 Since that article several glp-1 medications have been submitted to the fda for sleep apnea. Having said that, I have been on Ozempic for the last 3 months, have dropped 16 pounds, have had to reduce my blood pressue medicine by 50% because my blood pressure has dropped to the point where I got dizzy putting my head back to put in eye drops. Over the last week my AHI score has dropped under 2 (previously 3-5) and I have had less than one obstructive events on the last four nights. MY AHI is now about 1.1. I showed my sleep doctor my OSCAR graphs and he said the central apnea events were al related to arrousal and that it normal. If this continues I will try to sleep without my cpap and see how I do. This of course is anectdotal but its another case to add to the studyies. RE: tirzepatide - matttail - 07-18-2024 I read this as more of a ploy from the manufacturer to get more insurance approved use cases for their medicine. It is not a mystery that for some people loosing weight reduces their sleep apnea. I can't see how you loose the weight making any difference. I'm on the same journey - I kept telling my self for years that I would loose the weight first and then if I still needed it talk to the doctor about the apnea my wife kept telling me I had. I finally listened to her and talked to my doctor - got started on both CPAP and Zepbound at the same time. I'm down about 40 pounds over the last 3 months! I've got a long way to go and I will for sure ask for an other sleep study once I'm not longer overweight. |
