Please help. Is the DreamWear nasal mask supposed to be noisy? - Joeyk74 - 08-10-2024

I’ve tried everything and it’s so loud.  The air swooshing sounds.  The seal is good and so is the score on Myair.

I was sleeping 2 hours thinking of having a good fit, but air was escaping and was causing that sound. Ensure there is indeed good fit, no air should escape (except from the diffuser/holes for this purpose)...

Yes,  mostly at higher pressure. It also depends on the type of pillow you use.

One of the noises coming from the slit. When the header is too tight, either because you need a larger headgear or the strap is too tight, the slit is stretched and behaves like a whistle. On top of it, an additional whistling sound comes from the pillow version when the pillows are squeezed, caused again by the too-tight arrangement. It takes quite some time to find the right headgear size and the type and size of cushion/pillow. Generally, the cushion is quieter because you only need to deal with the sound coming from the exhaust. Some exhausts are too small, and cutting them larger might help. But my experience is that it usually becomes worse when you enlarge the hole because the sound is generated by the turbulence there, and a larger hole might mean more turbulence.

If you cannot tolerate it, you can use the alternative Respironics Dreamwear. In this mask, a fine mesh eliminates turbulence.

Some folks hear the sound of the air coming down the tubes on the sides of the face too much and it it annoys them.  Might that be your problem?  If so, you may need to use a mask that does not have the top of head tube attachment.

IME MyAir is over-generous with the smilies when it comes to leaks. You may, in fact, have a very leaky mask. Record on an SD and use Oscar. Then post a night.

Please also, fill out all the detail in your avatar. It’s impossible to tell what equipment you’re using. Exact matters.
