Breas Z2 - Air Noise at Mask Vents - mcman56 - 08-16-2024

I just got a Breas Z2 Travel CPAP.  The machine itself is very quiet, nothing like the Resmed Mini I tried.  It comes with a Q-lite muffler which I used last night.  I used the same mask I use with my Resmed AirSense 10 but air escaping at the holes/ vents on the mask was louder.  I assume the Z2 is close to the Resmed 10 for things like flow and pressure at the mask so don't understand how it can be louder with the same mask.  I wore an O2 ring and that data looks OK to me.

Is there a way to quiet down the flow through those vents?

The Z2 links to a phone and has some data output but I only see a few average numbers. Can this output full data like a ResMed 10?

Ressmed provided an example of quieting down the holes when introducing the AirFit N30i mask. They put a fine mesh on the holes and resolved the noise issues of the similar Philips mask. So, one can do a similar trick and tape a piece of the standard air filter (not the hypoallergic one) of AirSense 10 over the mask's holes.

However, there is a catch or danger you want to consider. The exhaust holes of all the masks are designed to meet some carbon dioxide release rate standards. If you increase the exhaust resistance by some mesh, you alter this vital parameter, altering your therapy, and in the worst case, you could damage your health.

When comparing the size of the exhausts of the said Philips and ResMed masks, ResMed needed to increase the area of holes considerably compared to Philips to balance the resistance of the filter, so they introduced larger exhausts. In theory, one can follow their lead, but it is tricky.

I found that add more pressure relief at exhale quieted things down.
