P10 Nasal Pillows to F40 Airfit Full Face Mask Settings? - stevesleep - 08-23-2024

P10 Nasal Pillows to F40 Airfit Full Face Mask

I have just swapped from the P10 Nasal Pillows to the P40 FFM.

My settings were pretty good with the P10 Nasal Pillows, low/no AHI, could fall asleep fine, very comfortable. The only problem I couldn't solve was air leaking out my mouth and waking me up. I tried chinstrap, mouthtape, and tongue positioning.

Therefore I've now gone to a FFM to resolve this problem. I can already tell air won't leak out the mouth and wake me up because it contains the air in.

My question is, what settings should I use? I tried it one night and I am just not sure if you should use the same settings on Nasal Pillows vs FFM?

On the P10 Nasal Pillows, it felt like I could get loads of air coming in my nose. With this FFM (after making sure there's no leaks), it feels like there's not as much abundance of air, it's not as smoooth. Maybe I need to get used to it... FYI I am using mouthtape down the middle with the FFM still, so I am basically still only nose breathing, the difference is to stop air leaking out of the mouth like crazy.

I just wanted to ask though, do people typically increase the pressure or change some settings to adjust?? Any tips/thoughts?

My OSCAR looks okay I think, I just maybe FEEL like I'm not getting AS MUCH air vs the nasal pillows. I can still breathe of course, I'm not gasping for air, it's just not as ABUNDANT. Not sure if I need to give it more time.

Attached is an OSCAR showing just an hour of use before I took it off as I wanted to make sure I had the right settings before trying to keep it on most night. Please ignore the AHI as that was before I fell asleep.

P10 Nasal Pillows Settings I had:
- PS 4.0
- 7.0-12.0
- Very High Trigger

It's best if you could post a chart using the F40, so we can compare.

ResMed recommends using the Pillow setting for the F40 even though it's a full face mask. I assume they know best, but some here have reported feeling better using the Full Face setting. So try both ways and gauge how you feel.

Yeah I'm using the pillow setting on f40, so I can test that. The first screenshot in the original post is f40 data. Below is p10 data.

While using your pillows mask, if you still have mouth leaks you need to use better tape or more of it.  I started taping with a really comfortable tape but found I still had bad leaks.  Then I checked out better tapes, but even with these, I learned that if I didn't use 2-inch wide tape, cut to about 5-1/2 inches long, I STILL leaked.  Lots here like Cover Roll Stretch tape or Hypafix tape.  These work well.  I like Theraband Kinesiology tape better because I find it more comfortable, but it is more expensive than the others.

Best of luck with finding a great solution!  Smile
