Nervous about taping - 2400Matt - 10-23-2024

I'm on my second try at CPAP. I failed my first try and had jaw advancement surgery in 2007. Was good for a decade but OSA seems to be back.

I love my nasal pillows but I'm having too much mouth leaking. A full taping does eliminate the mouth leaks and a narrow strip of tape (vertical) doesn't help much. I'm using a Knightsbridge chin strap.

I'm scared about emesis at night and having my mouth taped shut. I've read many are "fine" with taping. However, I view this as a rest of my life type of thing and I think an episode of reflux or vomiting is likely sometime.

I had little luck last time with the full frame full-face masks last time. My face is narrow and angular (I'm skinny and my BMI is about 20). I'm going to try some of the hybrid masks and just ordered the Evora.

I don't like giving up on the nasal pillows but I feel stumped about ways to address the mouth leak without tape. Any feedback or suggestions are appreciated.

My sense is that I'll just have to try several masks to see which one works best and anticipate that none will be perfect.

You can arrge a half-inch long end-part of the tape not to stick to your face by folding the tape. In this manner, you can easily grab and remove the tape quickly in an emergency.
