New CPAP user, surprisingly great experience with Lofta - Schnoozer - 10-31-2024

I have suspected I had sleep apnea for a while, and my sleep finally got so bad I decided to take action. The wait for a sleep lab was months, so I signed up for two online sleep services, Lofta and Daybreak. The idea was to get 2 different sleep labs at home to hopefully get a little more data and have more confidence in the result. I know daybreak only does MAD so was skeptical, but they had a promotion on their home test so i went for it.

Lofta was a good experience. Very organized online system, fast shipping, and they read the sleep study within a few hours and reached out. The initial person I spoke to (AHI of 19, btw) seemed very nice but mostly trying to sell me a CPAP and their Loftacare package. I went for it. Loftacare is $200 and they give you basically unlimited coaching via phone plus a mask trade-in program and the ability to return gear for refund.

A few days later I have the Airsense 11 and p30i. In the first week, my AHI has been under 1 so pretty successful. I called and asked how the mask exchange worked because I wanted to try cushions instead of pillows, and without hesitation they sent one to me and said I could keep the old one. In a week, they said, I could try another type if I wanted. The respiratory therapists who checked in with me (twice so far, in 6 days) were very helpful and positive. I mentioned on a call that I wasn't sure I was needing the humidity (I keep turning it down) and was considering slimline hoses for convenience during travel, and they sent me a slimline hose without even asking for it.

I asked Lofta a bunch of questions about travel CPAP. I hear that they make a lot of noise, but I don't have a way to try one. CPAP devices are only returnable for store credit if used, so this makes it hard to trial a travel CPAP. Someone called my 2 hours later and said they would approve me to return the device for refund if I didn't like it which is a stretch of the Loftacare program but I appreciated it. And, they threw in a 25% discount so it's $689 for the AirMini.

So, overall for a cash-pay, online service I am pretty satisfied.

Then there is Daybreak. I did the test, then I started getting multiple calls to go over the results. They were less professional. I got a text from a dr saying I had sleep apnea, which was the only text I got from them. I was able to get the sleep study results and they were less detailed. I was already moving forward with Lofta so I didn't reach back out to Daybreak.  This morning, I got an email from them and it said that they really wanted to go over the results with me so they recorded a short video (via loom). I watched it and they sent me the wrong video, so I watched a fairly junior seeming person explain someone else's sleep lab to me, with their name and personal info exposed. That's unprofessional.

Anyways, i am a sample of 1 - but my experience with Lofta has been very good.

The 11 is so lightweight it makes sense to carry it as a travel device and isn't counted as part of carry-on allowance.

It's small, but sometimes I go with carry-on only so it might be worth considering for me.

Also, I travel in Asia a lot on on small airlines and they make no distinction for medical devices. Some of them allow it by policy, but will still make you pay extra at the airport because they have often never heard of a CPAP at a tiny airlport in Thailand Smile
