High leak rate from large nasal pillows? - gohoos1998 - 01-05-2025
Hi all,
I’m using the large nasal pillows because the medium leaves me feel like I’m not getting enough air. That being said, I had a 48L/min last night. I also mouth tape and it stays put throughout the night.
All else equal, would you expect the large pillows to have a higher leak rate, or is that not the case? May try the medium again and see if it feels okay at higher pressure.
I do move around in my sleep a lot (PLMD) so it could just be due to that.
Would a FFM be better for an active sleeper as it relates to mitigating leaks?
I don’t have Oscar at the moment but hopefully this question could be answered without it.

If I understand well, it is speculated that a larger pillow causes more leaks, which is not generally true. The size of the pillow mask should fit your nose size, and the better the fit, the lesser the leak.
The FF mask is not the best choice for members who turn on their side often. It is best for back sleepers or side sleepers with specially constructed CPAP pillows.

Full face masks will likely be harder to seal for most, especially for side sleeping.
I did get away with it recently while trialing a VAuto and Fisher and Paykel Evora Full mask. It's still not ideal because any shift can push the mask, breaking seal.
