ResScan SW thread 2 -- runs on 64 bit OS? - justMongo - 05-17-2014

Some of you know I just moved up from DOS (actually Windows XP) to Windows 7 pro 64 bit. Before I try to install it, does the present version run on my OS? I suspect it does as 32 bit programs run (usually.)

Yes, I'm running it on 64 bit Windows 8. I have used it on 64 bit W7.

Thank you.. How's the weather on the Oregon Coast?

Just beautiful today. It was supposed to rain of course, but it hasn't done that. As a matter of fact I went outside this morning and got hit with a sunbolt.

Practically everything that runs on 32-bit Windows will run on 64-bit Windows.

This includes SleepyHead and Rescan.

Expect trouble mainly with things that involve "drivers", especially hardware drivers.

I have some programs written in FORTRAN and compiled on MS FORTRAN 5.1 which is IBM AT vintage (80286). It compiles and links for 16 bit.
I find none of those run on my 64 bit OS. I'll likely have to virtualize a 32 bit OS. Some are old NASA and NRL codes. One I make the most use of is a pseudo random password generator.

Yes, that is because they REMOVED the 16-bit sub-system in 64-bit Windows.

32-bit stuff generally should be expected to run fine.

As to something like a password generator, there are likely tons of them for both 32-bit and 64-bit or something that could be whipped up in under an hour.
