Oximeter - tommccandlish - 05-20-2014
I am considering buying a CMS50D+ Oximeter to use with SleepyHead on my Macs, one running OS 10.6 and one running OS 10.7. Will the Oximeter "mount" on the computers similar to how the SD card does so that it can be imported into SleepyHead? If not, what must be done to import the data from the Oximeter?
My concern is several vendors caution users of Macs due to incompatibility of the Oximeter with a Mac.
Thanks for any help on this matter.

No. The oximeter has to use a software called SpO2. To get it into SleepyHead, you import the data via the software then get SleepyHead to import the file the software saved.

I assume the "No" means this software is not available for a Mac. In reading the two links, I did not see any mention of a Mac only Windows 7 and Windows XP.

Firstly, I want to thank everyone who participates in the Apnea Board Forum, especially the moderators for their time. I wish I had been aware of this forum earlier in my use of “The Hose.”
I posted a question in May asking if a CMS 50D+ Oximeter could be “mounted” on a Mac to upload its recorded data into SleepyHead as is done for a SD Card from a CPAP machine. The answer I got back was it could not, but that the SPO2 software had to be used first to generate a data file that was then input into SleepyHead. While that process will work, it was not the correct answer to my post. Here is what I found out and have used successfully:
To input data from this particular Oximeter directly into SleepyHead on a Mac (Versions 9.5 & 9.6 for a Mac is what I used), a CP2102 UART controller driver bridge must be installed on the Mac. The driver can be downloaded from the Web from a Google search. The one I used was from Silicon Labs; it is free. The Mac installs this driver on one of its USB ports (I had to find out which port of my three it was by on by trial and error, which was no problem). The USB cable from the Oximeter must be connected to the USB port which has the driver installed on it. When the Oximeter tab is clicked in SleepyHead, the upload of data occurs just as it is done for the SPO2 software.
BTW, I do not know how to count to Zen! Thanks for your help, though.

What I do on my rather old Mac Mini is run Parallels, allowing me to use a Windows XP virtual machine to run the Windows program.

Yes, I run Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro using Parallels. I, however, have been involved in computers since the 60s and prefer using Mac OS whenever possible due to the affinity of Windows to fall prey to viruses. Also, running Parallels on my laptop eats up the battery.
