Why Autoset for Her - PaytonA - 04-05-2015

Anybody out there know why Resmed made their "for her" machine the autoset? Why not the Airsense 10 Elite for Her or the Airsense 10 CPAP for Her? Any ideas?

Best Regards,

I would guess they could sell it for more, but not sure. Just a guess.

The bigger question is why would they go and produce a single pressure appliance like the Elite in the first place? Is there that much difference in the hardware between it and the Autoset line? Simplify the supply chain, support and marketing efforts: make one model that do everything like the Autoset? Of course there would still be the need for the more complex BL and ASV machines, But if you could eliminate three machine models from the lineup, why not go for it?

I think it's a marketing ploy. What bothers me is the "For Her" machine has additional reporting parameters and pressure algorithms that would probably benefit everybody.

As far as making a brick, it's because of the competition is making one and they'd lose market share because certain health plans only allow for this model. A patient,doctor,and/or DME is more inclined to stay with the same brand when a more advanced machine is needed.

Also keep in mind that the "For Her Algorithm" is an Auto Algorithm so it would have to be an AutoSet and not a straight cpap by definition

I think that they do it so that after they sell you a brick, you will come back sooner for an upgraded machine Tongue They can sell 2 machines instead of 1 this way.

Perhaps ResMed is guilty of Misandry.

They could just sell the Aircurve 10 Auto and eliminate 2 more machines. Put in the "for her" features and eliminate one more. Actually they could probably set it up so the ASV could perform as any of the other machines as well as a servo ventilator and now we are down to one. Talk about simplification.

but then how could they justify the crazy price of the ASV to the paople who only wanted to pay for a brick?
What they need to do is make one machine, with software upgrades available on an SD card, to go incrementaly from brick to ASV, just like a cable TV set top box.

My personal scientific based opinion is that since the "for her" machine responds quicker to events it creates a turbo effect which causes guy's Adam's apples to vibrate uncontrollably. Which in turn really screws up a guy's "singing in the shower" voice.

Yep. Pretty sure that's the way of it.
