RE: 2 1/2 hour MRI and sleep apnea
There is no way you will get me in one of those machines, they are a bit smaller here and I am claustrophobic.
They tried hard to get me to go in but to no avail.
They had to do with a CT Scan.
My shoulders hit the sides on the way into the MRI and that was the end of that idea.
They would still like me to do one but it is not going to happen, unless someone hits me with a hammer first, to make me sleep. Oh wait, I might die of lack of breath!
That won't work either!
I am NOT a doctor. I try to help, but do not take what I say as medical advice.
Every journey, however large or small starts with the first step.

How do they do MRI's on folks on ventilators in the ICU/HDU?
Special MRI-compatible vents. They make just about every machine with an MRI-compatible counterpart--if the facility can afford it, that is--for 4 or 5 times the price.
I enjoy self-guided hallucinations during my MRIs. Like a free trip back to the 1960s...or so I imagine.
RE: 2 1/2 hour MRI and sleep apnea
This happened to me some time before apnea diagnosis and machine issue: I had an MRI for something and I was actually dozing off before and during the MRI. Likely from the sleep deprivation I suffered at that time.

I've got an MRI coming up to check my prostate. The last one was for a knee issue so being a bit closer to the tunnel might be interesting. They give you headphones and ask what radio station you want to listen to. I wonder if I can use one of my music USBs. I certainly won't be sleeping.

I suppose some facilities can do that for you. Mostly for me, I've encountered the tech streaming in Sirius/XM sat. radio.

You can't take any metal with you into the MRI, so no Metallica!
RE: 2 1/2 hour MRI and sleep apnea
My last MRI that had the free musical tour was Kenny G. The 2 most recent MRI did not include free music as their player was broken. Forced to listen to MRI techno music!

A place here has the newer "Wide Bore" machine which is much larger. I am broad shouldered, even if I was thinner, and getting me into one used to cause spasms because of my hunched up shoulders. I would warn them ahead of time and we'd do all we could to make me comfy. The wide bore style isn't like, huge, though. My shoulders still hit the sides but they aren't meeting in the middle at least!
Music? I've never been offered music! Just foam ear plugs and then headphones over that. But no music. Dang.
As for sleeping, I love rhythms - drums and bass guitar. So I look for the rhythm and there I go. I get fussed at a lot for moving my feet to the music in my head.

Unless memory is corrupt, probably is anyway, I thought I heard of some sort of standing MRI.

They have had "sit up/stand up" MRIs for any years, but they aren't around as much anymore. Part of a good MRI is holding perfectly still and they found people, even when they didn't intentionally move, would slump down over time. (I know I would fall asleep at the least lol). They were like Open MRIs, only built sideways.
Some of the newer MRIs are 60 cm across inside, so that is something to ask about. Called a "wide bore".
