AHI vs RDI

AHI vs RDI
So I was diagnosed with OSA and got my cpap a week and half ago.  On my report it shows nighly AHI and someone on another board asked what my AHI was when I posed a question.  My AHI was 3.1 but my RDI was 16.1 and o2 nadir was 87%.  Is the cpap machine only reporting ahi or is that the total rdi and ahi?  For the last couple of nights it shows my events are less than 1/hour which is good.  When I wear my smart watch it still shows my 02 dropping in the high 70s and 80s.  If I am having less than 1/hr shouldn't my 02 stats be better?   I still am not sleeping more than an hour at a time and actually feel worse than before cpap but I know it is a process to get used to.  Is it actually working since lower events?

You should download Oscar to see what's going on. Your stats shouldn't be dropping into the low 80s. But it might not be your sleep issues; other things can cause oxygen issues. Does your watch tell you what your average oxygen and daytime oxygen looks like? At this point all we can do is speculate but with Oscar data we could probably see what's going on.

A few things…

1. If you are very concerned about your O2, contact your GP or sleep doctor.

2. Take a look at the thread on smart watches/devices. Punchline is that they are good for directional guidance, but not medical grade devices. Take their data with a large grain of NaCl.

3. AHI is the apnoea-hypopnoea index and does not include RERA. RDI is respiratory disturbance index and includes all manners of events including RERA. Your machine is likely only reporting AHI. Please fill in the details on your profile so we know your machine, settings, mask, etc.

4. Post some OSCAR charts for review. The links in my signature explain how to do so.

O2 is always good other times. I'm an athlete and do lots of aerobic exercise and have no issues.  I did download Oscar and found out my machine is giving total of all events per hour which is amazing.  I went from 22/hr to .3/hr. Respirations and everything else is good. Does show o2 sat.  Maybe just watch is not accurate.  I don't think I should be concerned since Oscar shows such good stats?

Keep an eye on it but give it time to settle out since you've just gotten started with a CPAP.
It's not unusual to have continuing symptoms despite low AHI, and when your first getting started, you're not going to feel instantly great. There is adjustment and catching up and anxiety and all of that for most people.

Also, your lowest oxygen on your sleep test was 87, which suggests that before treatment, you weren't going all that low. Do you have a fingertip pulse oximeter? You could compare against those. Of course, you won't see it as low when you're awake, but you can get a better idea how the watch is doing.

Seems here you have to take your Healthcare in your own hands. I've watched videos and read a lot. I've changed a few settings on my machine.  Seems to be helping.  Hopefully I can get it dialed in. Basically I was handed a machine and told how to turn it on and put mask on and sent on my merry way. I've been back 3x to exchange masks but no other help. I'll update profile. My machine is auto 4_15 pressure, ramp off,  EPR on, humidity auto

Yes fingertip always in 90s. I don't take a lot of stock in my watch as I bike with it too and off a good bit. Thanks

That's great progress. Can you post an Oscar graph, use f12 to take a screenshot. EPR is subtracted from the current intake pressure, which won't go under 4 so you may need to raise your minimum pressure by the amount of EPR you are using. But let's take a look.
