AirCurve 11 ASV Backup Rate?

AirCurve 11 ASV Backup Rate?
Does the ResMed AirCurve 11 ASV have a timed mode (backup rate)?  I’ve not found it in the clinician menu, and my new machine is giving me headaches. I’ve moved back to my Philips machine in the meantime, using its BPM setting. Maybe there is a hidden menu?

The ResMed ASV does have an automatic, algorithm controlled backup breath rate. This is how it fights Central Apnea, by forcing an inhale enhanced additional PS blow, according to the timed backup breath rate. You cannot change it in settings.

I have used a ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV in the past. You can change comfort settings like humidity, heated hose, and Ramp. Therapy settings available are: Mode, EPAP, PS as applicable. No timing settings are accessible.

It's possible if you're struggling with therapy, your settings that are accessible needs edited.

By the way, if you wish to post an OSCAR chart, I can help with the ASV settings. Or at least I'll try to.

RE: AirCurve 11 ASV Backup Rate?
The Resmed ASV does not have a setting to manually set anything other than pressures. The automated respiration rate and volume targets work well for most people, but the failure to include a respiration rate and volume target over-ride is a major shortcoming of this device, and the reason it cannot be used for individuals with certain conditions that result in hypoventilation in combination with central and complex sleep apnea. As you know, the Philips BiPAP AutoSV has these settings, but generally achieves much lower efficacy (higher AHI) as compared with the Resmed, in spite of those manual settings. I attribute much of that to a lack of speed and the effective adaptive-servo algorithm differences.

RE: AirCurve 11 ASV Backup Rate?
I went through my ResMed data in OSCAR. Looks like it takes the ASV a full 8 seconds to respond to a central apnea. Seems long to me. And it rarely flagged those events as an apnea.
Strange.

Show me the flow rate and mask pressure. That sounds unusual, but we have no idea about any aspect of your therapy or resp rate.

I'm not sure what your current setting are, but this could be a source of less responsiveness. An OSCAR chart and something will be highlighted as an issue.

Here are three charts, overall, one apnea that was marked, and one that wasn't.

Is there a ResMed machine that will do ASV and timed backup?

The ResMed ASV does have timed backup. You just can't adjust it.

Your settings need an edit in my opinion.

You want to try ASV Auto mode, EPAP Min between 5 and 7, Max between 12 and 15 and then PS range 3-15.

Currently you have static EPAP 7 and PS Max is capped at 9. Your ASV pressure chart is pegged to the top at 16, and it's begging you to increase pressure so it can help.

RE: AirCurve 11 ASV Backup Rate?
Your zoomed chart will make a lot more sense if you use mask pressure instead of pressure under the flow rate chart.  The UA event is clearly a breath-hold, and I would speculate you were turning over.  We see an inhale that drops back to zero flow and an exhale occurs just as the UA is flagged, followed by normal breathing.  I will bet there are two triggered breaths if you look at the mask flow chart, but there is no place for that breath to go because you are holding your air and creating an obstruction.  If you can post this with the mask pressure you will see the individual IPAP/EPAP waves and how they relate to the event.
