AirFit F30i Mask Problem
#21
RE: AirFit F30i Mask Problem
Gender - Female
Face Shape - round face, high cheek bones
Nose type - Button Nose/wide, no arch exist by eyes

Masks I have tried - F+ P Vitera, ResMed F30i and F + P Evora Full Face Mask

Experience
The Resmed F30i and F + P Vitera leaked immediately into my eyes when turn on machine to use at home, mask fit says is Red for leaks - although it's right size, fitted fine in dme. I use the F& P Evora Full Face Mask now which is ok, but I have to tighten it alot to avoid small leaks. Leak rate is 8-10L/min. AHI is 0 with mask.

However there is ResMed F40 full face mask which just came out. I will wait on that verdict - try it out at local DME but in no hurry to purchase. I am going to save my money for now wait a few months. See how people feel about mask after at least 30 days use. I am also interested in Dreamwear Nasal Cushion - no divider on nasal area .

RE: AirFit F30i Mask Problem
The Evora mask has to be pretty loose .  It needs to essentially float on your face.  When in have it adjusted I can easily slip a finger under it.

I'm currently using a F20 and pretty happy with it . Debating on tryijg the F40 when it comes out.

F + P Evora leaves face marks on cheeks and jaw. When I loosen it the air leaks by nose. I put padding to reduce the problem with leaks. I am working with it till I can purchase another kind like Dreamwear Nasal or ResMed P30i.

(03-10-2023, 04:42 PM)OldTeacher Wrote: I’ve been on cpap therapy for nearly 7 years with some success. I’ve used the AmarView full face mask most of that time. When I got a new machine recently (AirSense 11 Auto), I saw another full face mask, the AirFit F30i, while at the DME place and asked about it. I tried it on and the tech told me to take it home and try it. I like it a lot, but I’ve run into one big problem. Every so often I wake up with a suffocating feeling and can’t get air. It’s as if someone is pinching my nostrils together making it impossible to breathe through my nose. Sometimes I’ll spend as much as a half hour trying to fix the situation, including turning the machine off and on several times. It usually resolves itself, although I’ve begun keeping the AmaraView mask on hand to switch over so I don’t lose an entire night’s sleep trying to fix the AirFit F30i. I hate to give up on it and go back to the AmaraView mask, but I’m getting discouraged about this problem. Can anyone shed some light on what might be the trouble?

I see I am not alone in this matter, I am new to CPAP therapy and was giving this mask to try, I to get the suffocating feeling and I keep getting woken up in the night, Also I keep getting leakage at the top sides of the mask, I am 6'3 280 Lbs and was given a small Airfit F30i mask. Small seems to small to me. Could that possible be my suffocating and leakage issues if the mask nasal holes are not alighning with my nose. I went to a place called Medigas in Ontario Canada and she measured my nose with that cardboard cut out.

Any suggestions would be very helpfull.

RE: AirFit F30i Mask Problem
Hi Chritters!  -  Welcome
The mask size:  Leaks - Yes  / Suffocating - No.
Try the Resmed F30i sizing guide to find your correct size.  Link: https://document.resmed.com/documents/pr...ch_eng.pdf

Based off your profile pressures listed, your starting pressure is too low for an adult.  Try bumping this minimum up to (at least) 8cm.  If you are using the ramp feature, turn it off.

Download a free copy of OSCAR and take a screenshot (using the F12 or Fn+F12 for a Mac)of the Daily screen, and start your own thread on your treatment.

Good luck!

RE: AirFit F30i Mask Problem
Hello Chritters,

Here's a bit of my experience with CPAP and my new hybrid full face mask.

I'm 17 years into cpap therapy, 5 machines, 7 mask types.  It took me several months to get used to having a cpap mask on my face.  I almost gave up.  Feelings of suffocating, monster on my face (Alien movie), caused me to almost give up.  I was using regular full face masks that cover from the top of the nose to under the mouth.  After a few months, I could finally make it through a night's sleep with one on.

I switched to a hybrid full face mask last Feb. It gave me a feeling I could not breathe through my nose at first. Mine is an Evora Full Face.  I have a ResMed F40 on the way.  Your F30i looks interesting.

Why I felt as though air was not getting to my nose was in part due to not getting the mask aligned.  It took quite a bit of fiddling with the straps to get the mask to feel like it lined up with my nose so I could breathe freely.  I use L even though I measure for S.  The S, M, L indicated the size of the nostril vent, not the overall mask size as with regular full face masks.  I am 5' 6" with a small nose.  I don't understand the reasoning behind the sizes.

With no fitting help, I finally went to a mirror, leaned back, and lifted the bottom of the mask to see how well the nostril vent aligned.  It was doing okay but still, I had the sensation that something was blocking my nose from getting air.  Having something up against the bottom of my nose took some getting used to.

I continue to fiddle with straps and move the mask around to keep it aligned for clear nostril breathing.   I do a pressure test with it using an AisSense 10 machine once in a while.  I move the mask a bit until it feels like I'm breathing freely through my nose.  I move a lot in sleep so the mask may shift out of alignment with my nostrils which is one reason I want use the L size.  (largest nostril opening).

The hybrid full face mask has been an improvement.  Leaks are way down and I like not having the mask over the top of my nose. If I did not roll around in sleep so much, I would not have such leak problems.

I wish I could change out mask cushions every 2 weeks instead of once a month.  They begin to lose their form and rigidity by week 3 and start to leak.  Head gear begins to lose its elasticity after 3 months of use and by month 6 needs changing.

Best of luck.
I only give suggestions from experience as a fellow CPAP user, not professional advice.
