Battery solution needed
Thanks for allowing me access to this forum.
I have been using CPAP since 2008, starting with ResMed Auto Set Spirit II CPAP, and have used it at a pressure of 4 for about 11 years. Later I started having issues of sleepiness at work which was difficult to diagnose, but anyway I decided to change to a newer machine after consulting my doctor. I went for Philips Dreamstation with humidifier.
As such I have no major issues with the Dreamstation, but the problem is when I travel by train in sleeper coaches (in India travel times are long), I usually get to hear people swearing at me in the middle of the night, because the DreamStation does not have a battery option, unlike the ResMed.
I started looking for a battery backup but the original Philips battery is way too expensive and unavailable in India. I finally found one which is a battery bank and they claim they serve {Philips Dreamstation, but the rated output current is 5 A at 12 VDC, whereas the Dreamstation requires 6.67 A at 12 VDC.
They supplied me with a small inverter that would draw power from the battery bank and to which I can attach the original AC adaptor. While this is okay technically, it might be a huge problem carrying so many devices just to power up the Dreamstation (I remove the humidifier when I travel).
Therefore, while the specs sheet in the user manual does mention 6.67 A at 12 VDC, I would like to know if 5 A output would also work or not. If it does, then I can straightaway connect one of the USB ports to the Dreamstation using a connector cable that they supplied.
Any help would be useful..
Thanks
Sumit

The 5 amp output is more than enough if you turn off the humidifier and use a DC to DC adapter rather than an inverter to go from DC to AC then back to DC. That is extremely inefficient. All you need is any DC power station that provides 12 Volts DC output and use a simple power cord like this. The Dreamstation works on 12 Volt DC power, and your AC adapter converts 110-220 volt AC to 12 volts DC. When using a battery, that conversion is unnecessary.

Do you have a recommendation for a similar item for the Resmed devices (Airsense 10)? I know the voltages are different for Dreamstation vs Resmed.
RE: Battery solution needed
Of course. The Resmed uses a 24 volt DC power source and proprietary plug. There are OEM and aftermarket (less expensive) 12 VDC to 24 VDC converters available on Amazon and Ebay for most power supplies. Here is an example:

Awesome, thank you!! Hopefully this will yield better results with a battery backup than just plugging straight into the portable battery (AC-DC shenanigans).

Thanks a lot for your timely response Sir.
The battery bank that I have purchased has two main output ports:
1. Cigar lighter socket: 12 VDC 15 A: The Cigar port is for connecting to the DC-AC inverter to produce 240 VAC. As you can see, the amperage is 15 A. Too high.
2. DC port: 12 VDC, 5 A, 60 W. The DC port is the only one which the manual says should be connected to the Dreamstation for which they have provided with a connector with one end for the Dreamstation DC port and the other end for the battery bank DC 5 A port. My question therefor was, will this port work?
I am attaching the specs sheet with relevant photos for clarity.
Thanks in advance for final advice.
Sumit
RE: Battery solution needed
Your cigar lighter port will work with the standard Philips DC-DC power plug. The criteria is for 12 VDC, the amperage does not matter as the PAP will pull only the DC current it requires to operate. Just because the outlet is rated at 15 amps does not mean all that current will flow.

Hi
Thanks a lot Sir for your help. But I tried this product, can’t find in India.
So for now, would it be safe for me to use the other 12 V DC port that puts out 5 A if I were to use the machine without the humidifier?

Sir your kind answer awaited.
