[CPAP] How do I fix flow limitations?

How do I fix flow limitations?
Hi all,

I seem to be getting a lot of flow limitations, but have trouble understanding how I can fix these. And to be honest, what they actually mean?

Also, pressure is set to 4-12, but barely goes above 4 all night. Is that normal?

Thanks,
Richard

RE: How do I fix flow limitations?
I am not familiar with your CPAP brand, as in knowing what settings it may have like I would with ResMed, which I use.

Regardless, you'll likely want your min pressure to be turned up a bit, maybe 6 to 7. Then you'll want to look for something that gives exhale relief. Again I'm not sure what it's called for your device. You'll want to set this to relieve exhale a bit to mimic a bilevel. These 2 steps go together so your CPAP has room to reduce exhale, you then need to make room by increasing the min pressure. Besides most adults will feel air starved at a minimum 4.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I feel a bit starved for air actually at 4cm. I'm a 185cm, 98kg bodybuilder so might need some more air.
Lowenstein has a softPAP setting (0-1-2) that seems to function similarly to ResMed's EPR.

I'll give your suggestions a shot!

That should do it for you then. Your choice on soft pap setting, whether you want to go to highest or work your way up. Good luck on it.

RE: How do I fix flow limitations?
So I have increase the pressure from 4-12, to 5.5-12 and set the softPAP (similar to ResMed's EPR) level to 2.

5.5 felt better compared to 4.
Still getting a fair bit of flow limitations. What else should I try? Increasing the pressure more?

Thanks,
Richard

RE: How do I fix flow limitations?
I had Prisma 20A. I also have flow limitations. I struggled with it for a year and a half, and even after trying all the possible combinations of settings I've read about here on the forum and on reddit, I couldn't do anything about it. Until I switched to the Resmed AirCurve 10 VAuto. Since then, it's been a lot better. The SoftPAP one didn't suit me. It doesn't work in spontaneous mode. It only lets you exhale for about 1 second and immediately increases the pressure. On the AirCurve it only starts to increase pressure when I start to inhale. It's a much more pleasant form of therapy. Not to mention that you can set more pressure support there. Also, on Prisma, my mask went flying off my face at lower pressure than on the Resmed.
