RE: CPAP Machine Choices - read this before you accept a new machine
I was given a BMC 3B Luna II Auto back in December 2021. Even though it doesn't work in OSCAR, it seems to work fine for me, though its auto-start functionality is more than a bit gung-ho. I think I'm supposed to be asked for the upload codes every 60 days, but I only got asked once.

(01-22-2017, 06:38 PM)Many PTs at DMEs don\t even know what a manometer IS much less how and why to use one.  They think that a data-capable machine is one that provides compliance info. Wrote: How is this used and why? TIA...

If I understand your question, a manometer measures the air pressure of a CPAP in this case. It is used to verify the CPAP's programmed pressure versus the actual delivered pressure.

Manometers measure the pressure differential between atmosphere and the measurement point in the mask or pressure tube. In the case of CPAP, the results should be positive air pressure in the approximate range of the settings. We use manometers to verify pressure differential in many applications, and I have a very good one sitting in the garage. They can measure the negative pressure of an enclosure to verify emissions are captured in a paint booth or lab hood, and positive pressure in a CPAP or clean air environment. They are fairly simple devices, but give valuable information used to calibrate equipment or verify compliance with certain regulations. "Compliance" is simply a measurement of hours of use of CPAP, and does not require a manometer.

And compliance can easily be faked if one struggles during the night and not meeting the hours. Just relax, sit in your favorite chair, watch TV and use the machine...

Anyone have any lukc getting their DME to test your machine with a manometer?
