Chin strap question

RE: Chin strap question

If the chin strap allows that much jaw movement, how does it prevent the mouth from opening and allowing air escape while you sleep? I put a resmed chin strap on today to see how it feels and it didnt really seem to provide any real resistance. I will try it tonight but can't imagine how it will prevent me from opening my mouth while I sleep

The ResMed chinstrap is worthless. I could not keep it from sliding off, and even when it stays in place, it doesn't do much. I have been using spandex headbands as chinstraps. The stretchy material works well for a few days, until it gets too stretched out. Then I wash them with my whites to shrink them so I can use them again.

I purchased a Puresom Ruby chinstrap, which is very well-made, and has the same springy action as the spandex. Unfortunately it was too small for me, so I had to place an order for a larger size.

I wear my mask over it which keeps it in place. If I try to sleep without it I wake up mouth-leaking. With it my unintentinal leak is down around 10 L/min or less.

RE: Chin strap question
I had the same trouble with the "Resmed" chinstrap so I know what you mean big_dave. I got one of those ""Puresom Ruby" chinstraps but I find that it gets in my way as I'm sleeping. I keep hoping that, somehow, I can "train" my mouth to stay shut but I haven't had much luck with that, (Ha-Ha.)
