RE: Complex Sleep Apnea? Suggestions?
It could be that your body now getting restorative sleep with ASV, does not need as many hours of total sleep therefore the allotted time in each of the sleep categories are reduced.
Do keep us posted as your body acclimates to the ASV therapy, it will probably take a long time for complete restoration to take place, then the faint memories of disturbed sleep will be the only reminder of sleep prior to ASV.
It really helps boost the rest of us when a new member experiences the reward of restorative sleep after being denied for a lengthy period.
RE: Complex Sleep Apnea? Suggestions?
Yeah it could be that. Although the improvement has been massive (as I've confirmed, the nasal dilator was the driver behind such improvement), I still feel it's not enough as I'm normally getting just 5/6 hours of good sleep. I've always been a very active person (I run, do heavy weightlifting, and used to play football), so my sleep requirements have always been in the 8-9 hours per night (sometimes even more).
That being said, this baseline is so much better than before that at least gives me something good to work with and makes life so much better. I'm going to keep working on it until I've managed to get 8-9 hours of good sleep per night.
Yesterday I received the full-face mask ResMed AirFit F30i. I tried using it for an hour or so, but the inspiratory air pressure would blow up the mask to its limits, making it very hard to fall asleep. I wonder if I should try reducing PS Max at first, although that's a bit counterintuitive considering that normally a full-face mask requires the same or more pressure than a nasal mask like the one I've been using. What do you think?
RE: Complex Sleep Apnea? Suggestions?
Hey @SleepRider, I've read a few old posts where you mentioned that FFM tend to "inflate and bounce" with ASV machines. That is exactly what's happening to me with the F30i.
I was wondering if you heard or knew of a FFM that people had success with on ASV.
RE: Complex Sleep Apnea? Suggestions?
I don't use a FFM and so I never actually had to figure it out, but the key will be minimizing the volume of flexible materials that will potentially expand on a breath by breath basis. The F30i has a relatively small mask are for a full-face, but unfortunately I think the hollow headgear is what expands and contracts on this mask. This might be a good question to ask in a separate thread. I have not experience with it but the Fischer Paykel Evora looks like it might be okay. If you do start a thread, use a title like, Full Face Mask Recommendations for Minimal Bounce with Pressure Support. That way we can can search it in the future.
RE: Complex Sleep Apnea? Suggestions?
You read my mind! I was going to ask you if it was OK to start a new thread on the subject. Cheers!
RE: Complex Sleep Apnea? Suggestions?
I've had significantly better results with the ASV using an N30i nasal mask with cover roll mouth taping, compared to the F30i.
