Daxby's Therapy Thread
Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well!
I had been struggling with fatigue, brain fog, and concentration issues for a while, and in the past few months my symptoms had been getting worse, which made me finally decide to see a sleep doctor.
Today, I received the results of my in-lab sleep study, and it turns out that I have mild (moderate?) positional sleep apnea with an AHI of 17.
During the night of the sleep study, I had trouble falling asleep and could only sleep for 3 hours and 56 minutes. The sleep doctor told me that I only had 19 minutes of REM sleep and that my results would have been much different if I had more. Probably higher AHI.
Based on my recordings, I usually snore between 50% and 70% of the night, but on the night of the sleep study, I only snored 11%, probably because I barely had any REM sleep. I wonder if I had snored as usual, my AHI would be higher.
This is what the translated notes on the first page of the sleep study says. (I'll attach the next pages also translated)
SLEEP STRUCTURE
Total sleep time 3h56min, high % awake, difficulty in falling asleep and maintaining sleep, sleep efficiency Seff 55, very low. Sleep latency 44min, REM latency 319min, Deep sleep 14%, REM sleep 8%, wake after sleep onset WASO 147min. Periodic movements of the lower limbs PLMl index:5.
RESPIRATORY STUDY
Mild positional SAHS, IAH=17.
Snoring 11% of the night, accompanied by irregular breathing punctuated by hypoapnea and obstructive apnea breathing pauses. SaO2m=95%, CT90=1%. Apnea-Hypoapnea index per hour of sleep, AHI=17, AHI supine=22 versus Nonsupine=5, AHIREM=3 versus NREM= 18.
She told me that we could repeat the test, but based on the results and my symptoms, advised me to proceed with a PSG with CPAP tiritation in 3 weeks. Then they will lend me a CPAP for 3 more nights to collect more data at home and see if I can get used to it and see any improvement in my symptoms.
I wonder if my Sleep Apnea is really "mild" and if having more REM sleep on the day of the test would have negatively impacted the AHI. I would appreciate if someone could give me some feedback about my sleep study.
Thanks!
