I cut a filter for my airsense in half, took the valve apart, and put the two pieces around the valve. It takes a couple tries to get it set in just enough so the valve still clicks together.
Nearly silent at 10cm and much quieter at 20cm.

Hold off on that. I pulled it apart half asleep because I didn't hear anything, so it's either really quiet or I ended up plugging it totally after adjusting it again.

<My guess is> The Whisper II Swivel Valve's design allows for a calculated 'bleed' or air leak to accomplish what it is supposed to do.
The bleed is 360 degrees around an internal drum measuring .895" within a second drum (body) of .955", leaving a leak-gap of .060" -around the entire peripheral. Little wonder it makes such a racket. To my point, I would also guess that packing any kind of filter within or around this type of valve would alter its intended function up to and including substantial.
Yeah, I had hoped the CPAP filter was porous enough. The air is travelling through one already. It needs to be a material that diffuses without blocking much like some of the resmed masks, but you are right any material pressed into it will at least slightly alter the venting capability. I may have one more idea though. To be continued...

Out of the masks I have here one of the elbows I can press the tube into and it with a bit of tape I think it would work, it just happens to not be a very quiet elbow. So if you have or find a quiet elbow that fits you could get lucky and create an alternative vent. The other option would be finding a material that would diffuse the air without obstructing much.
I had thought about a slightly larger tube that would go over the valve and cpap hose and directly the flow further away from you. It would need to be a material that wouldn't create an echo and sealed on the end towards you. I don't have anything on hand that would work for that to experiment and it probably would end up being more hassle than its worth.
I'd say this is a no go but if by chance I ever discover something I'll post here.

FWIW: I have other major challenges with basic settings at the moment
that puts EERS wa-a-a-y back on the shelf for me.. maybe infinity
Good Luck on your endeavors
