After years of letting it go I'm finally getting help for my OSA. I was previously diagnosed 6 years ago (didn't continue treatment due to my insurance company leaving me high and dry). Originally, I did an at home sleep study. My AHI at that time was reported as 18, mostly attributed to full obstructions.
With new and better insurance, I decided to make attempt 2 at getting some help. This time I had an in-lab sleep study. This time my AHI was only 9 and it's all hypopnea!
I feel pretty crappy most days with fatigue. During college I would routinely fall asleep during classes, and even now 15 years after I struggle to stay awake sitting upright at my desk in the office, especially in the afternoon. Everything and everyone at work aggravates me. I struggle to do anything other than make dinner and go to bed after work. I don't have the energy to exercise. I'm clinically depressed and hypertensive. To me, this all seems to line up well with moderate OSA......but now the latest study is saying it's significantly more mild than I was originally told.
My doctor didn't really have an explanation for this. I weigh more than I did then (no energy for exercise anymore) and have more trouble breathing through my nose than I did 6 years ago. I don't know which result to trust!
Could my OSA really have gotten better? Seems unlikely. I was lead to believe the at-home PSG's tend to UNDER-report, so I expected the in-lab study to show my issues were worse.
Good news is help is on the way. An AirSense 11 was ordered for me today.
Thanks for your input!
