Dream Station 2 Foam removal

Dream Station 2 Foam removal
Hi, I'm a new Cpap user I have the Dream Station 2 auto cpap Advanced.

The machine has been good so far, but I recently discovered the news about the recall, and that the new one has Formaldehyde emissions. Which is kind of ironic as I've been going out of my way to avoid Formaldehyde that is used in Varnish and clear coats, and now I'm directly inhaling it.

I'm wondering has anyone removed the foam from the Dream Station 2 and if so will it effect the function of the machine assuming any holes any holes are plugged?  Function other than noise reduction?

Also is it possible to for me to see my stats on this machine and make adjustments or can only the clinic do that?  Honestly I was kind of surprised the device had a cellular modem and they had all this data at the clinic and only found that out when I asked them were they are getting the data from. I would rather do it myself then depend on a clinic not only would it be cheaper, but assuming I can make proper adjustment I will check it far more often and pay closer attention to it then the clinic would.

Thanks for any help.

Are there any machines out there made with less toxic plastics, like Cellulose based plastics?

Here you go…

For stats, read the Wiki on OSCAR and request a manual for your machine.

The mechanics are the same, but components are different. There are quite a few YouTube videos explaining how to remove and replace the foam. Whether you want to do so with a DS2 is a debated point in a number of threads.

You can do a search of the forums for ‘dreamstation 2 foam’ and read the threads to decide if and how you want to proceed.

Personally, I would not use a Philips CPAP product, but that is my choice.

^ Wow.. I'm not sure if the heating issue is " just" a fire hazard or can lead to malfunction, but if I got that right they changed foam before their products got recalled.

RE: Dream Station 2 Foam removal
I had a DreamStation 1 which was recalled and replaced with a DreamStation 2. During the course of owning the DreamStation 1 for about a year and a half I never had a problem with particulates of foam showing up in the water tank or elsewhere. I never used an ozone type 'cleaner' which likely would have quickened the deterioration of the foam. On the side of caution I sent the DreamStation 1 to Philips to get the replacement DreamStation 2 which I've been using for about 2 1/2 years. I've had no issues with the humidifier overheating (the unit sits on a nightstand with nothing underneath that would hold heat near the unit such as a table cloth). Not too concerned about formaldehyde, as there is likely more around me in building construction products, furniture cushion foam, and in my vehicles than what might be emitted from the CPAP.

FWIW.... If you should proceed to attempt to remove the foam from your DreamStation 2 it will void your 2 year warranty

You can get into the clinician provider mode to view and change settings. A little tricky to get the finger swipe to work, but it should work. Make notes of what the setting was before you change it in case you need to get back to it.

Entering Provider Mode

Prescriptions are set via Provider screens that are

unavailable to patients.
With the device plugged in, press and hold the Therapy
button for several seconds. When the light ring around the
Therapy button begins flashing, continue to hold it down
while using another finger to swipe down on the screen
until “Entering Provider Mode” appears.

To access the clinical menu on the DS2, press the button for about 3 seconds until it starts blinking and swipe down on the menu.

Thanks. And Thanks to poster ^ above also. The info about the provider screen was really useful. I tried oscar but found I have no sd card.. Does anyone know what kind of sd card to use with Dream station..  On the provider screen I check 1 day range and that will tell me the previous day?  It says my pressure is min 10, max 16 and is on auto, I have pflex [ whatever that is] and ramp is 15 4.0
my ahi was 0.3 for last night.
Is this all the data I need with my AHI, or should I get an SD card to use oscar?   Thanks for any help

Is the dream mapper software useful at all?

RE: Dream Station 2 Foam removal
Welcome to the forum StratCat48.   The dreammapper app is pretty useless.  You can use any 32GB or larger SD card, just needs to be formatted in FAT32 before installing it into the machine.

I believe that there is only one version of FLEX in the DS2, not two modes as was the case on the DS1, so if you feel like exhaling is too difficult you can turn on flex:

  • Flex– This allows you to adjust the level of air pressure relief that you feel. when you exhale during therapy. Your home care provider can enable or disable this feature. When your provider enables Flex, a level will already be set for you on the device. You change the setting between Off, 1, 2, and 3. The setting of “1” provides a small amount of pressure relief, with ‘‘2’’ and ‘‘3’’ providing additional relief. Many new CPAP users enjoy the relief that flex provides, but some old-school users might find this feature different and may want it off.
You are a correct about the previous night while checking the provider 'clinical' menu.  For now I would disable ramp, get an SD asap so it's recording the clinical data and then upload the charts after a night or two, for review here.
