DreamStation 2 Session Info - Phantom Disconnects

RE: Oscar Session Info - Phantom Disconnects
Just began having the exact same problem over the last three nights - 7 or 8 disconnects all equally spaced an hour and 10-13 seconds apart.  Autostart is on, firmware version is V1.0.3.3690.  Currently on hold with Respironics customer support for 45 minutes.

RE: Oscar Session Info - Phantom Disconnects
May I suggest that anyone having this issue use the prompt for the "DreamMapper" Help line when calling the main Respironics number.

They were very responsive and sent over the escalation to the engineers who contacted me and asked numerous questions.... I was then asked to upload the SD Card contents.

One of the questions was if the air "flappers" in the mask could be stuck in the closed position. Mine weren't...

What I discovered independently was that the tubing at the heated hose connection on the mask had a small torn area that only leaked in certain positions. This is a vulnerable area as there is no strain relief to prevent stress at that point.

This leak may (or may not) be a contributing factor..... I've replaced my hose (and mask to be sure) and I'm waiting for the results of the data dump...

So Far, the phantom events have not repeated.... we'll see...

RE: Oscar Session Info - Phantom Disconnects
I was hopeful that the problem was my mask and replaced it and the nasal pillow yesterday as part of my routine maintenance.  No help there.  I have not replaced my tubing in the last 2-3 months, but I've inspected it and did not see an issue there.

After going through the troubleshooting steps with Respironics Support, their conclusion was that the machine needed to be replaced.  I've asked about receiving reimbursement instead given my DME supplier is no longer providing Respironics machines and I feel the support might be better if I switched brands to one they are currently using.  As you would expect, there is resistance from Philips, but I have yet to receive their final answer.  I guess time will tell.

The other interesting aspect of this is that I was told there is no assurance the replacement machine, if reimbursement fails and I was forced to accept a replacement, would be the same as my current model.  The implication was that I could receive an original DreamStation, believe it or not!

I will say, the journey with Respironics over the last 2 1/2 years has been an interesting one!

RE: Dreamstation 2 Session Info - Phantom Disconnects
I've changed the title of this thread from "OSCAR Session Info - Phantom Disconnects" to "DreamStation 2 Session Info - Phantom Disconnects", since this is not an OSCAR issue at all, since OSCAR only reports what the DreamStation 2 data says.  This is a DreamStation 2 issue, not an OSCAR issue.

Thanks

It stopped for a couple days on v1.0.7 and started up again. Even with AUTO ON set to OFF.

Philips just can't seem to get it together, sadly.

Well, that's just plain old disappointing.  Sorry Philips can't get this issue fixed.   Oh-jeez

Machine is getting sent back. They gave my family a loaner DS1.

I asked them "did you feel better with the DS1"

"Yes"

For whatever that's worth.

Similar experience here - 3 night in a row with the phantom disconnects then the last 3 night where the disconnects were completely absent and everything was totally normal.

Seems like an intermittent/random problem.  Will continue to monitor then try to decide what to do next.  Frankly, my first preference is switch to a ResMed machine, but at 2 1/2 years into therapy, like many others, I remain a hostage of Philips.  Switching to ResMed would be expensive and out-of-pocket.

"Seems like an intermittent/random problem."

Yeah, quite maddening really.

RE: DreamStation 2 Session Info - Phantom Disconnects
Here's the next chapter in my story:

Received a brand new replacement DreamStation 2 late last week since Respironics concluded mine was faulty.  I have used it twice now.  Each night, 9 disconnects, only 2 of which were "real".

I had asked Respironics for cash instead of the replacement machine - declined, sent the replacement machine instead.  Tried to sell the brand new machine to companies that buy preowned CPAPs with the thought of purchasing another brand - the highest offer was $300.  Net, nobody wants these things!

I am convinced that the company has no idea what they are doing at this point and what they are producing is inferior and/or flawed.  Unfortunately, I feel stuck and completely without recourse - like I'm sure many others with this CPAP do.
