Dreaming
Has anyone noticed if there is a connection between apnea events and dreaming? It seems to me that when my apnea number is down I dream. If the number is high I don't remember any dreams in the morning.

RE: Dreaming
I almost never remember my dreams and never really have.
I do have more events in REM sleep than in other stages. Note: I'm an epidemiologist, not a medical provider.

RE: Dreaming
I dream like crazy all night since I started CPAP. I only hate when dreams are of the nagging type... that is when there is an obsessive compulsive issue that's very stressful.

I dream nearly every night since being on my machine. I actually had no idea what I had been missing til I got this ability back again. I think it's one of the benefits.

RE: Dreaming
HL, have been wondering the same thing about relationship of dreams and events. I have noticed considerably more dreams since staring xPAP. Here is a screen shot where I know I was really into a good dream just before waking up. For me there seems to be a very distinct pattern and it even included 1 H at the beginning. I've tried to trace similar patterns on other nights that I remember dreaming and usually can identify them. Still have not identified a particular pattern for various stages of sleep but actually being able to see how I'm breathing during a dream is fascinating to me.

RE: Dreaming
I can not remember ever dreaming in my entire life. I have had untreated apnea for most of my life also. I have noticed that when I have a good night with very low AHI or a long period without events I seem to dream. I don't remember dreaming if the number climbs above 2.0

RE: Dreaming
Dreaming is a good sign your brain is reacting as it should when sleeping.

RE: Dreaming
My dreaming ability, while it never really went away, has come back very strongly with xPAP to the point that I now remember some dreams when I wake in the morning. I see it as a sign that my sleeping is coming back to what it should be.

RE: Dreaming
Since starting CPAP the quality of my dreams has improved dramatically.
Previously my dreams were bizarre and almost nightmarish. They always involved a struggle, a missed deadline, an inability to move or to achieve a goal. Now they are much more 'normal' and often pleasant.

RE: Dreaming
Sometimes, mine are still bizarre. The constant one used to be parking the car and not being able to find it. The other one also involved the car, running out of speed as I go uphill. I wonder what the dream specialists would make of that. Those dreams have not recurred since using xPAP.
