Dreamstation SD Card Question
Has anyone used a micro SD card with a standard SD card adapter in a Dreamstation? Tried it tonight and the machine would not recognize the card. Liked the idea of using one as you can take the micro SD out without having to remove the whole card. This would reduce wear on the machine. Thanks in advance!

RE: Dreamstation SD Card Question
What is the capacity of your micro SD card? And is it an HC or XC or plain(not likely).
I suspect an XC micro SD card is unlikely to work, and a 16GB HC micro SD card may not - I'm not that familiar with the Respironics machines.

RE: Dreamstation SD Card Question
I think the stock card is a 4 GB HCSD Card. The card I’m trying to use is a 16 GB Micro HCSD Card with adapter.

I just stuck another SD card in my machine and it worked OK. A lot of people on this forum use the Toshiba FlashAir, and though you have to set the parameters for it to connect to your wifi network, the CPAP data recording aspect of it works out of the box just by inserting it into your DreamStation. Just out of curiosity, how much is your rep charging you for that?

RE: Dreamstation SD Card Question
Maybe the 16GB capacity is the problem? My card is holding only 50megs data after one year... 16GB seems like overkill.
The Philips Respironic's OEM SD Card from my DreamStation Auto is 2GB with Part # 1063859 printed on it. This SD card is getting worn down too and I need a replacement. And I too like your idea of wear&tear on a SD Micro adapter instead of the CPAP's card slot. I own both a PNY SD card and a ScanDisk MircoSD card (both are HC 4GB). I just now reformatted both, making sure the 'Volume Label' is blank and unchecked 'Quick Format'. I then copied current OEM SD card's contents (i.e. the 'P-Series' folder) over to these test cards. Both of these cards are 'accepted' when I insert them into my DreamStation (running v1.0.6) without any error coming up. I'll keep the SD Micro in for one night and check it in the morning with SleepyHead to see if it stored the night's detailed data correctly. Otherwise if this fails, either I'll plan to call my RPSGT to get his price, OR... I have searched on Google Shopping for "Philips Respironics 1063856 SD Card" and see several CPAP parts suppliers carrying exact looking replacement SD Cards for US$ 12-13. I'm thinking of buying from one of these, to see if it truly matches the Philips OEM SD Card. It'll take me a bit to report back on this.

RE: Dreamstation SD Card Question
16 GB is overkill however im not sure if my local Walmart had less capacity. Will have to check. I’m very interested to see your results. Knowing that yours actually accepted the micro SD with adapter is promising. Mine would just say “remove and reinsert” along with an occasional “disk is full.” I removed it and checked the files on the computer and it did have some files from the machine and it did try to format it. Was your micro SD adapter a Sandisk as well? Wondering if maybe it’s defective, however the computer does recognize it and is able to reformat it successfully.

RE: Dreamstation SD Card Question
The 4GB ScanDisk MircoSD card works, stored data from last night's sleep looks correct in SleepyHead. I used a Kingston adapter slip, but have others and they worked too.
I just now tested 8GB SD and 32GB MicroSD cards, and I did not get the error you mentioned. But I made sure to fully Reformat, make the Volume Title blank and copy the entire P-Series folder to these. I Also made sure to keep the Write-Protect was off.

RE: Dreamstation SD Card Question
That is great that it worked for you! I also got mine to work this afternoon... I tried everything I could to get a 16 GB SanDisk "Ultra Plus" Micro SD with adapter to work without success. The card was advertised as Ultra High Speed-1 (UHS-1) noted on the card as a U1. I returned the card today and exchanged it for a 16 GB SanDisk "Standard" Micro SD with adapter. This card is advertised to have class 4 speeds. This card worked flawlessly straight out of the package.
So basically the first card has faster read/write times the second card has slower read/write times. Should this technically matter? No, because they should be backwards compatible. So in my case either the Dreamstation can't support UHS-1, or I had a defective SD card or adapter to start out with. Hard to believe it was defective as the computer would recognize it and format it. The Dreamstation would also try to format it and write data unsuccessfully. I know for a fact a lot of people successfully use the Flashair which is a class 10 card which is faster than class 4. Also, from what I have researched UHS-1 is the same speed as class 10 but utilizes a different bus for communications. From SanDisk's website: "UHS Speed Class was introduced in 2009 by the SD Association and is designed for SDHC and SDXC memory cards. UHS utilizes a new data bus that will not work in non-UHS host devices. If you use a UHS memory card in a non-UHS host, it will default to the standard data bus and use the "Speed Class" rating instead of the "UHS Speed Class" rating. UHS memory cards have a full higher potential of recording real time broadcasts, capturing large-size HD videos and extremely high quality professional HD." I find this interesting and would be curious to know what speed class your cards are? As it may not even be the case and my card could have just been defective. - Jordan |
