Getting a machine for the first time
I've been recently diagnosed with moderate OSA and have an appointment tomorrow at the equipment store.
They'll be giving me instructions and I'll try a few masks but are there any other questions I should ask them? I read stories of people getting a used machine. How do I avoid that? Should I expect an unopened box? But since they'll be explaining the process, won't the machine be already out?
This is in Ontario, Canada and I'm getting AirSense 11.

Make sure it is an autoset. There are a number of models just like there are a lot of models of Ford. Autoset is top of the claps. If it is a bipap you want a VAUTO.
You can ask to see the number of hours on the blower. It should be very low. It might have a little be on it if they turned it on to check it out but less than a hour.

I would suggest you watch a couple of YouTube video showing how to use the resmed 11

Thank you. The doctor prescribed me an APAP so I'll look for an autoset.

in the AS 11 you can just roll down in the settings menu to 'about' and it will show you the runtime of the motor - no need to enter clinical mode for that.
Do make sure they give you a SD card for the machine - it goes in the slot on the top left side of the machine. There is a blank verse a card in thes slot by default.

That run hour display can be reset when you perform a factory restore, reset, or what ever the AS11 calls it. The run hour display, that is inaccessible for resetting, is in the clinician menu.

Be cautious when they present you your machine. If you have a hunch something is wrong, make an issue out of it.
When I was given my ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet, it was in it's soft case, but not in a factory sealed box. Took it home and with the help of this forum, I found out that it had 68 hours of use on it.
68 hrs. isn't a big deal, but they were paid in full for a brand-new machine. Not a demo or one that someone might have returned.
Anyways, be cautious.............

Thanks for the advice, folks. I'll check how to use the clinician's menu.
So should I expect a factory sealed box? In that case, I'm guessing the machine that they'll use for training/instructions will just be a demo machine that I won't get?

I've heard a lot about DME suppliers and some of their shady business practices. You might ask about the factory sealed box and will yours come in one.
Hold their feet to the fire and see what they say...............

The main thing is to test the machine and read the runtime before you sign anything.
Make sure you test the heated tubing and heated humidifier.
And with the as11 see if you can get an extra hose even if you have to pay for it, frequent failure within the first few hours.

I got the device today and thanks to you all, I checked the run time and it was new. However, it didn't come with a SD card so I'll get one on my own.
