[Equipment] ResMed Aircurve 10 AutoSet for ASV
#1
ResMed Aircurve 10 AutoSet for ASV
I am trying to help a friend get a craigslist machine to treat central sleep apnea. He has had multiple sleep studies, so he has a diagnosis of CSA, and has titrations. I just want to double check that a  ResMed AirCurve 10 AutoSet does ASV before he purchases it. It is to be a backup machine while he waits forever for the DME to get everything together,  … etc. Etc.

An AirCurve must say, "ASV" on it to be an ASV machine. The AutoSet name is associated with the AirSense series and not the AirCurve models. An AirCurve VAuto is a Bi-Level machine is designed for OSA, not CSA.

Thank you for your kind reply, Red. I apologize for my error.  I am utterly confused. Perhaps the ad in question is just wrong, and that is why I am so confused. See link. I will contact the seller and try to figure out what the deal is with this machine!

I am just trying to help out a friend who has bad central sleep apnea (CSA) who has not gotten onto cpap due to cost and endless insurance delays and am trying to push him to get a craigslist machine as he still has ~6 weeks to wait. I have an extra Airsense machine I’d gladly lend him, but he needs an ASV machine. I don’t know how to assess whether he’s better with Airsense machine or no machine if he is unable to snag this particular Aircurve machine which is a long distance away from where we live.

I realize my post is silly…. Of course you can’t put a regular cpap machine on someone with CSA. I just hate that he’s not being treated due to red tape and the lack of caring on the part of the powers that be…..

RE: ResMed Aircurve 10 AutoSet for ASV
The machine you posted from Craigslist is an Aircurve 10 Vauto, the same machine I use. It is a bilevel machine, meaning it provides separate inhale and exhale pressures. This machine works on spontaneous effort, or it follows the respiratory effort of the user. It does not have a "backup rate" to trigger inspiration pressure when thee is no effort by the patient to breathe. In other words, this is not used for central apnea. The Vauto also has the ability to adjust trigger and cycle sensitivity, which means it can help to reduce central events, but only if the user spontaneously initiates at least a small change from exhale to inhale. The Aircurve 10 ASV is used for central and complex apnea. It targets the last 90 seconds of breathing volume and rate, and will trigger inhale pressures up to 15 cm above exhale to cause the user to inhale. ASV is "adaptive servo ventilation" meaning it changes inhale pressure if needed in the amount needed to maintain respiratory volume and rate. The Vauto cannot do that, and the machine you are looking for is the Aircurve 10 ASV. You found a great deal on a Vauto, but it's not going to resolve central apnea.
