mtueckcr - Sleep Journal
#31
RE: mtueckcr - Sleep Journal
When I visited my ENT last week he offered me a WatchPAT study to see if he can diagnose UARS. The study shows mild OSA (6.5 AHI) and an elevated RDI (12/hr), my ODI was 5.7

you can find the images below. I hope this diagnosis is sufficient to get my insurance to pay for treatment.

This is the text translated to english:

I would like to thank you for your cooperative participation in conducting the ambulatory Watch-PAT sleep study and now inform you of the results of this examination.
Your total recording time was 9 hrs, 18 min. For the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea, we were particularly interested in recording the actual sleep duration. Your total sleep duration was 8 hrs, 52 min. On average, a person with normal sleep habits sleeps between 6-8 hours per night.

Your Sleep Statistics from the Recording Include the Following Information:
Your Apnea-Hypopnea Index (abbreviated as AHI) is 6.5. This value represents the average number of apneas and hypopneas per hour of sleep per night. An apnea is defined as an episode where you stop breathing for 10 seconds or more, while a hypopnea is a restricted breathing event. An AHI of 5 or less is considered normal.
Your Respiratory Disturbance Index (RDI) is 12.0. This value is calculated similarly to the AHI, but additionally includes a respiratory event known as RERA (Respiratory Effort Related Arousal), which signifies a brief awakening reaction from a few seconds due to a partial blockage of the airways. The normal RDI value is 5 or less.
Your Oxygen Desaturation Index (ODI) is 5.7. This value represents the average number of oxygen desaturations of 4% or more per hour during one night of sleep. The normal value for ODI is 5 or less.
Your REM sleep phases constitute 29.7% of the total sleep time. REM sleep is very important as it is the phase during which your body regenerates and recovers. The normal range of REM sleep as a percentage of total sleep is between 15 and 30% and also depends on other factors. It is assumed that dreaming occurs during REM sleep.
You are welcome to schedule a consultation appointment with me if you are interested.
Best regards

RE: mtueckcr - Sleep Journal
Thank you very much for posting all of that mtueckcr.  I am not familiar with the healthcare system in Germany.  In the USA, an AHI of greater than 5 can be grounds for getting pap therapy and treatment.  AHI 6.5 and ODI 5.7  Your RDI was 12 I think also.  This should be a statistic that helps your case also.  It is best to always give as much evidence as possible (concrete numbers can be best) when trying to convince the Dr.'s and your insurance.

Your SPO2 looked ok during the WatchPat.  It seems like you have cooperated with your Dr.'s request and completed the WatchPat home sleep study, so the ball is now in your Dr.'s court to see what will be prescribed and if your insurance will pay.
