F/P Vitera Mask seal problem

F/P Vitera Mask seal problem
I have a problem with this mask not sealing well (leaks). Waking upa lot. Cleaning the mask at night, shaving, clean face.
I wake up with bright red marks that last into the next session (24 hours). The mask is adjusted per F/P recommendations.
It's either too loose or too tight. There isn't a good inbetween. I ordered a mask liner at pad a cheek, but have to wait approx 3 days.
I have some older white cloth pads from 12 years ago that I've never used. I'm trying that tonight.
I'm a side sleeper.

Any help is much appriciated.

Thanks

Bryan

RE: F/P Vitera Mask seal problem
i can't really offer any help. i can only commiserate. i bought this mask (private party, no script) and had the same issues. i have had that problem with a few masks.

like you, i did the fit like recommended and even watched some videos of people describing how to best fit it. alas, no luck on my end.

but it has its adherents, and those who love it, swear by it.

i've heard that micro-adjustments, while lying down, are your best bet for a proper fit. you can try that. and make sure you have the correct size cushion/frame. if you got it from  a dme, you could probably return it, if it doesn't work out.

good luck.

the red marks (to me) indicate it's too tight. you could try loosening it a bit at the top. the mask is supposed to have a large latitude in regards to the fit at the nose.

For what it's worth, I have the same issue with an F&P Evora Full. I've posted a lot about the Evora Full.

Beautiful mask; buy and use at your own risk. Perhaps that's so with any mask. I really wanted it to work.

RE: F/P Vitera Mask seal problem
The Vitera works best with the top straps relatively loose (almost very loose) to let the "rollfit" upper part seal well on the bridge of the nose. If the tops straps are too tight, the rollfit cannot work as it should.  The bottom straps need to be snug though.  If you have already tried this combination, disregard my post.

Agreed with the above. When I last was on ASV therapy, this was the best mask I had. I did have to adjust while at therapy pressures, lying back on the bed, mask on. As I recall, first thing to adjust was the top of head strap for height on nasal bridge or it wouldn't seal, then it was bottom set and finally top set. All had to be somewhat loose or Rollfit didn't work, as the mask was tightened.

Your suggestion has worked a miracle for me.

My F&P Evora Full full face mask leakage is much better following your instructions above.

I've tightened up the strap across my bald spot. One notch made a huge difference.  Thank you!

RE: F/P Vitera Mask seal problem
Interesting, DaveL, I was just reading your Evora thread then saw this one about the Vitera. I'm trying to make a Vitera work here. The clinician who did my lab sleep study put me in a medium when the fit gauge clearly shows I should be using a large cushion. I was given the mask ("not for resale") after the study, and discovered I could buy a large cushion for it for $18 (!) on Amazon Prime, so that'll arrive today. If it works out (I get the leaking under control), I'll have a nearly "free" mask, and I'll return the F30i that leaks like crazy and get another large Vitera for a backup. I know from today's reading that I've had the Vitera way too tight. I woke up four or five times last night and I'm miserable today--fingers crossed!

Ah! I'm happy you are on the right path.

I did the 4 or 5 times awake last night with the same result. Finally changed masks and settings on my S10...and woke up at 5Confusedomething feeling I hadn't slept.

I would like to sentance sleep docs, DME suppliers, mask designers to wearing their own equipment until they get it right.

There's no wellness in my sleep apnea treatment. And when I complain they say I'm compliant. AHI<5.0! Wearing time is more than 4 hours.

RE: F/P Vitera Mask seal problem
I'm really sorry for them that it doesn't suit them. My Vitera is very tight, but only after I set it really very loose, lying down. With large pressures with the maskentest may have to be retightened a little, but always lying down.
For me, the perfect seal is achieved when I have about 1 cm distance to the forehead at the top of the headband and the band does not rest.
