First nights OSCAR data
[attachment=13972]

was wondering if anyone had any input? Not bad for the first night of using a machine. I understand the obstructive events..but lost on everything else.

RE: First nights OSCAR data
Welcome to the forum. What were the results of your sleep study? An AHI of 9.81 is generally not regarded as good but if you were diagnosed with severe or moderate sleep apnea it is a significant improvement. I’m sure we can help you get the number below 5.
To explain the events in you daily chart:
Apnea: 80% to 100% reduction in airflow for >= 10 seconds
Hypopnea: 50% to 80% reduction in airflow for >= 10 seconds
RERAs (Respiratory-effort Related Arousal) are abnormal breathing events which do not meet the criteria of an Apnea or a Hypopnea but can cause arousals
All 3 can disrupt your sleep.

Increasing your minimum pressure and EPR should reduce all 3. The clustering of your OA suggests a positional issue. You are probably tucking your chin to your chest which restricts your airway. This is controlled most effectively by wearing a soft foam cervical collar. The soft cervical collar may reduce the pressure requirement.

I suggest you change your minimum pressure to 9, increase EPR from 2 to 3, and try a soft cervical collar.  You also have some large leaks which can compromise treatment. The mask primer (see link below) may help you with that. Instructions for changing machine settings are found here: https://www.apneaboard.com/resmed-airsen...setup-info

Post additional data after you have made the changes. Please replace the snores graph with flow limits.

Thank you greatly. I also noticed the hour or so of “perfection” is that common? I would love you achieve that for more time lol
No sleep study. I’m in the process of treating myself. I know that is frowned upon. I appreciate the input greatly.

Some go for hours without an event. On occasion I have none in entire night. An hour is probably common for many. Treating yourself is not frowned upon in this forum. Most of us have found it necessary to treat ourselves after getting inadequate treatment from medical professionals.

Just a note to say it’s great you are undertaking treatment for your apnea. Not only that, but you have an excellent machine, you’re using Oscar, you managed over 7 hours your very first night, and you’ve come to a great group of people who will help you dial this all in. Way to go!

That you managed to wear it for as long as you did speaks volumes about your character and determination.  Good for you.

Apart from the positional problems already mentioned, and with the standard and most efficacious suggestion that you use a cervical collar, your machine states that you have significant leakage.  It's a problem that needs to be dealt with sooner rather than later.  If the mask bothers you, or doesn't work no matter how much you like/can tolerate it, you need to look at another mask. If it is simply a matter of correcting the fit, or the way you wear it, or the way you sleep with it (it matters...a lot!), then we can help you with that.  But the bottom line is that leaks cause all sorts of problems and confounds for both you and the machine....get it sorted out pronto.

Thank you so much guys. Night number 2 was 3.3. I haven’t pulled the data yet but I am excited about that. Should I leave the settings alone for awhile and see what happens?

Excellent! Later on, when you have a chance, why don’t you post another chart? That will get you the best advice.

Great progress.  like Leave the settings alone and post more data. You may benefit from some minimal tweaking but lets see what happens.
