Help Getting Used to the AirSense 10

Help Getting Used to the AirSense 10
Good morning, all.

I've used a CPAP for over a decade. Until late last year, I used a ResMed S9, and absolutely loved it. It was a complete life changer. However, I had used it way past the "you need a new motor" message, and decided to get a replacement, just in case. My ENT was finally able to get me an AirSense 10 AutoSet.

I just found your forum today, and can already see that there is much love for this machine. But for me, SO FAR, it's been miserable.

The main bullet points I have are as follows:
  • My first problem was that it was trying to drown me, even at a low humidity setting (2 or 3). So I enabled the "auto" control for the temperature, etc.
  • That led to my second problem: the warm air feels suffocating to me. I never feel like I can get a breath.
Currently, I've tried to set the tube temperature to 65 or 67 degrees. That worked for a couple days. But I woke up early today, again, because of the warm air/can't breathe problem.

With the S9, I never woke up 2 to 3 hrs early because of the "attempts to drown" or "I can't catch a breath" feeling. With this AirSense 10, it is starting to happen more frequently: about two or three times a week.

In an ideal world, I would NOT have a ClimateLineAir tube, and it would just be the temperature that's in my room (like my old S9).

What information can I provide to help you guys help me find the right settings so I can get back to a good night's sleep?

Thank you so very much!

Hi,

First thing you needed to do is to post the following graphs:-

Events
Flow rate
Pressure
Leak rate
Flow limitations

Please eliminate the calendar and pie charts.

For further details of graph organisation please see here.

Expat31 is correct: posting your OSCAR charts from one or two nights may highlight the cause of your "stuffiness" with the Airsence 10 Auto.   Without seeing your chart - which means I could be very wrong - I suspect a minimum air pressure issue.  I know we are all different in our machine settings, so just to share, I run my Airsense 10 Auto at 5 humidity and tube at 81 F degrees. (27C).

Any standard or slimline unheated tube with 22mm ends fits the machine. You need an exit elbow ($11 last I noticed, and overpriced for what it is, but that's normalized for all CPAP/APAP machine parts/supplies - medical equipment means price gouging is good to go!)

Or you can set humidity to 0, which I often do for the summer as I have limited tolerance for warm dank air.

I use to have that problem with the warm moist air.  I just turned off the Humidifier and quit putting water in the humidifier.  Problem solved.

Correction (just tried it) you only need an exit elbow if you want the 90 degree sharp corner there. If you make whatever turn you need to make at hose radius you can simply slide a normal 22mm hose end onto the machine connector and ignore the electrical contacts around it for the climate-line tube. Save $11.00
