Battery for Airplane Travel

I'm going to be traveling overseas and want to be able to use my Resmed AirSense 10 while sleeping on planes. I've heard that it's not a good idea to plug the machine directly into the airplane seat power outlet -- is this true? Otherwise, I will have to purchase a battery (which is quite expensive and not covered by insurance) so I'd appreciate suggestions as to the best one(s).

Also, are there any concerns about using a foreign power adapter with the machine at hotels?

The power supply for your machine handles all voltages and frequencies. The only concern for travel is to have the right plug adaptor for the countries you are in.

I will leave on-flight comments to someone who knows. I'd probably skip the machine and rely on sitting up myself.

You are limited in the size of Lithium Ion battery permissible on aircraft.
Not to exceed 100 Watt hours. I estimate that would run your machine about 4 hours without humidity.

For overseas travel, bring a set of universal plug adapters; and a US extension cord as where you are staying may not have a convenient outlet.

Per American Airlines:
Onboard power for medical devices - You’re required to bring any necessary, fully-charged batteries to power your medical devices throughout your flight. Don’t depend on the availability of a power outlet to support your device.

There are TSA requirements and then Airline liability proofing. TSA will not let you bring a large battery on board and no airline will accept the liability if the on plane power goes out.

Personally I have never had the power go out on a plane. I would just use a regular adapter and is luck hit and we lost power I would sleep sitting full up.

Depending on where in the world I was going, I might be more concerned about the local power than the plane power.
