3. I think the first thing is to get the pressures right so she feels more comfortable. Next you might want to think about alternatives for a mask. But one step at a time.

I agree with this. Once she is more comfortable, she will (hopefully) use the machine throughout the night. Most people stop needing to get up during the night once their apnea is being treated.

As for Ramp, it runs every time the machine starts. You have the Ramp starting at a good number, so you've already fixed the problem a lot of people have with using Ramp (feeling of suffocation if the setting is too low).

Ramp is purely a comfort feature though and you will have to determine if it is making your mother more comfortable, or if it is causing a problem (you'll do this by how she feels and by what you see happening on her charts). Some people start off with Ramp and gradually lessen the time until they no longer use it.

I am not clear on whether the machine will come out of Ramp to treat events though. If not, then that means she will not be properly treated during the time that the machine is in Ramp (because the pressure is taking time to come up to the level that she needs). But I do not know the answer to that. You may be able to tell by her charts, if you see lots of events while the machine is in Ramp.

Quote:she is 5 feet, 131 lb.. She definitely wear petite size clothes. But do you still think she is petite in this category?

I don't know. My thought was that people here (I'm guessing) are probably thinking in terms of the average sized American or Australian (or whatever) which is much larger than a Chinese woman of your mother's generation. I do not know if or how that might affect recommendations, but I was hoping one of the gurus might speak up and let us know.

I am not Chinese, but I do carry a gene that makes me respond to medications in a way that is common amongst Chinese, so that I need a much lesser dose than is normally given to a woman of my size. That is what made me wonder about your mother's situation.

No, I don't think the machine will come out of an auto ramp mode to treat events. However, it does not actually go into ramp until it detects you are asleep. I find that it is quite reliable in doing that. And while you are awake you should not have events to treat. The ramp portion is very short as the machine ramps up at 1 cm per minute. For example if you are ramping from 6 to 8 cm it would only take 2 minutes. Odds are with you that no events occur during that short period.

Quote:1. what is the difference between resmed cpap mode, autoset mode and autoset for her mode (sorry I try to understand them correctly).

2. Also with all the graph detail, which are the primary stats  you pay attention to and you would reorder them together to get a better look.

3. And what would you suggest to let mom use the device longer hours at night (she does need to go bathroom couple times at night)?

1. CPAP mode is a fixed pressure mode. You would have to choose one single pressure to use rather than a range of 8 to 15. I would advise against using it. Once things are settled out a bit and you see what you are getting with the revised pressure settings, which I believe you now have correct, you could try the Autoset Mode instead of the Autoset for Her mode. Hard to predict if it will be better or worse. Just try it and see. The difference could be subtle, but some of your previous posted screen shots indicate there may be some benefit in using the Autset mode.

2. I posted my daily detail screenshot below. These are the variables that I like to look at with the AirSense 10. The Mask Pressure and Flow Rate look like garbage, but have some interesting detail when you expand out the time scale. To maximize the detail that is visible make sure you maximize SleepyHead to full screen when you are setting up the graphs to show, and before you do the F12 screen capture.

3. I think the first thing is to get the pressures right so she feels more comfortable. Next you might want to think about alternatives for a mask. But one step at a time.

thank you. I see you didn't order AHI close to pressure on the chart. So does when AHI happen high important to pressure level?

if auto for her mode "Treats apneas up to 12 cm H2O and continues to respond to flow limitation and snore up to 20 cm H2O.", so how do i know the max shown on the graph is due to high OA needed or due to flow limitation? ( if i understand correctly, flow limitation and OA/CA apnea both are the causes.)

thank you for your patience.

You are asking better and better questions. I don't mind answering when it is clear that you are interested in learning.

Actually AHI is in the next graph below the leak and off the screen. I just scroll up one when I want to look at it. Not sure how much it really means though. I had one day where most of my events were near the morning, and this graph showed it well. But when I looked at it closer I could see that pressure was at the maximum too, and most of the events were actually caused by the pressure being limited.

On the OA is it kind of hard to tell. One kind of has to assume that ResMed are being honest about how it works. That means if pressure is below 12 cm, it will respond to OA events only. If it is above 12 cm, it will only increase for flow limitation and snore. Below 12 cm it could be responding to any of the three events. You kind of have to look at the pressure where the events are occuring to piece together what it is doing. Not easy. That is why I suggested trying both modes and see which works best. The both have their advantages and disadvantages...

Please take a look last night report. She took sleep med, i noticed AHI started rasing at 12:30, then at this point, i don't know whether i should raise pressure higher than 15, or switch to autoset mode to treat it. does AHI high due to short usage or the med?  She said with sleep med still not quite help her full sleep. I am helpless.

Also i fill up the water tank to mid line, humiditity level is 7, she said there is water dripping, this morning water came down to min level. (I use 7 because she said nose was stuffy).  I switch to 5 now. will this help? should I fill up the water tank or leave at min level?

Thank you so much

Also do you all have pressure setting needed on your diagnosis report here?

My mom did the sleep study in China, only show she is sleep apnea, and AHI,  SpO2  etc, no pressure needed shown. So how would you be able to determine that when purchase device?  thank you

It looks to me that she didn't likely go to sleep until about 22:40. There were a few events, but not many just after that. The real problems started at 00:40, and if I read your charts right, they were virtually all OA events and the IPAP pressure was 12 cm or more. After pressure reaches 12 when in the "For Her" mode, the A10 does not respond to OA events with more pressure. I think that is the main problem. I would suggest leaving everything else the same but switch the mode from "For Her" to the standard Auto mode. Then see what happens. Since there were very few CA events I don't think the sleep medication had any impact on the events.

For humidity I just put it in auto and fill it every night to the max line. You need the heated hose to put it in auto climate control. I find it works fine, providing I remember to fill up the reservoir...

thank you.

She was using device and full awake for first few hours.

Is this the tube you get?

about $40??

I did ask doctor before they don't think needed. and forum users suggest this. Also I am thinging take her to see ENT, but wont happen until early next month. I am afraid i am running out time.

do you mean very few "CA events" (not OA events)??

also i have question above, curious

Does heated tube just need to replace old one, any setting/change need to make?
