RE: How to overcome if you breath with mouth and nose same time when wear mask
I saw the phrase "leave a gap behind the neck" and thought that you were trying to fill the gap behind your neck when laying on your back. Just ignore me.
RE: How to overcome if you breath with mouth and nose same time when wear mask
All the nice friends, I have ordered 2 inch collar and a kid pillow for mom to try on.
Now i am getting down to pillow section. My questions is pillow choice are so varied, but i can't keep getting different kind to try. Currently she is using a soft down pillow, so will the collar help her target the high OA events or you think need to consider a pillow change as well?
I know i should wait to see how it goes after she try collar this weekend, but i am just wondering since most of the recommendations here are for using collar not change pillow. There must be a reason i haven't figured out. Would you please help me understand better?
thanks
RE: How to overcome if you breath with mouth and nose same time when wear mask
There should be no need for a new pillow if the collar works. I believe all the advice on trying different pillows was on the assumption you wouldn't be using the collar.

Yes, I agree. Try the collar first. I suspect both at the same time would not work well. Consider the pillow only if the collar fails to help.

RE: How to overcome if you breath with mouth and nose same time when wear mask
Hello All the smart friends,
I have another questions:
if the automode for her can only deal with apnea up to 12, and my mom's mostly are OA events and not flow limit and snore (not sure what are these limit will cause it increase to 20), so why the pressure each night can max to 15?
Do you know what are the flow limit and snore number will cause the pressure continue up to 20?
also just a thought, would you think a mask for asian type face will be different sizing compare to American size type? (just like clothes, small is different concept in China than in here).
thank you again.
RE: How to overcome if you breath with mouth and nose same time when wear mask
Looking at your Mom's chart she did show a lot of flow limitation at the same time as the OA events. The flow limitation is what drove the pressure up to 15cm. If you set the maximum pressure up to 20cm the flow limitation could push the pressure as high as 20cm if that is what is needed. If the pressure can't open the airway at 20cm than it'll just stay there.

B. Do you know what are the flow limit and snore number will cause the pressure continue up to 20?
C. also just a thought, would you think a mask for asian type face will be different sizing compare to American size type? (just like clothes, small is different concept in China than in here).
A. It is the lowest limit that applies. If it is in the For Her mode and the events are OA type, then it will not go above 12 cm for pressure, and events may continue to happen. If at the same time there is flow limitation or snore then it may try to go higher based on those. However if you have the maximum pressure set at 15.6 like the last SleepyHead chart indicates, pressure will not go above that setting, regardless of what happens with OA, flow limitation and snore. My suggestion is to set your maximum at 20 cm and put the mode in the standard setting, not For Her. That will give the best chance of having the machine fix the problems. If it does, then you could also try it in the For Her mode to see if it gets worse again.
B. No I don't. What I see in your chart however is that the machine is responding up to the maximum 15.6 setting, and it must be the flow limitation and snore that is doing it. So the short answer is that what she has is enough to drive pressure up.
C. Your most recent chart shows a very low leak rate from her mask. It is all under 8 which is excellent. It makes me wonder if the mask is adjusted too tight and may be uncomfortable. If she thinks that mask tightness is a problem, you may want to try backing it off a bit to make it more comfortable. But this suggests to me that the size is fine. If you want to check to see what Resmed suggests for size, do a google search for resmed airfit f20 sizing guide pdf. You should find a pdf document to print and cut out to check for size. Just be careful with the scale. You may have to manually adjust your printer setting to get it to print out at the correct size.

Yes, so the key/puzzle is what flow limit and snore could start drove pressure above 12. As i see last night's chart both max is 1 (not sure what is the unit for those).
I want to hold off change the pressure until try the collar, as pressure last few days cause her ear pain. I think something need to fix first (such as position, or other obstacles on bed, behind neck, in front of neck, etc).
Machine will do its work if increase pressure, but at the same time could cause her discomfort, that's why she can only wear it until 1 am most of the time.
Yes I did use the size guide to get the small mask for her. Next thing i will try is change to mirage and the heated tube.
every day i show her the charts and talk to her about this forum and how people help each other.
In china, all cpap device is not covered and out of own pocket, price is much higher.
So i need to have all this settle in good way to be able to let her return safely.
And i need to translate all the manual and show her how to change/clean all parts.

RE: How to overcome if you breath with mouth and nose same time when wear mask
Snores weren't a problem but the flow limitations were. I've noticed in the past that flow limitations trigger an increase in pressure once they pass .30 on the flow limitation chart. If you look a the chart you'll see it has scale that runs from zero to 1.00. If you check the pressure chart along with the flow limitation chart you should see when it starts increasing the pressure.
By the way it doesn't matter if your from China or Mars. If it's a small mask than that's as small as it gets.
