Humidifier Chamber Leaks - Resmed 10

Humidifier Chamber Leaks - Resmed 10
I just wonder if I'm doing something wrong or of others have similar experiences. I've been using a Resmed 10 Autoset for about two years now. Over that period I've had to replace the humidifier chamber some 4-5 times. Each time, it has been due to leaks at the corners (seal failure), where the metal plate is joined to the plastic upper part. I don't even have the humidifier at a particularly high setting - just level 3. The only thing I can think of is maybe that, since I use tap/faucet water, it can be quite cold at times, necessitating the plate to heat up quite a lot. Any insights would be very welcome.

That’s not good. I have never had to replace a water chamber because of a leak on my A 10 in 5 yrs. But they are a replaceable item, maybe you just have a lemon.

I had the same problem 1 time. I don't understand how it could happen to you 5 times. I am assuming that you have not dropped it. Strange, no idea on why.

No, never dropped it. I'm very careful with things in general - light touch. I'm beginning to wonder whether I'm getting genuine parts or bogus imitation stuff! I order from a European website that was recommended to me by my sleep technician when I started using a CPAP machine.

I just did a search of some older posts here (probably should have done it before posting!). It looks like a lot of people have had problems with leaking Airsense 10 humidifier chambers. But there is huge variability. Some, like me, have been very unlucky, while others have gotten years out of a single chamber. That smacks to me of production process issues as opposed to faulty design. I suspect that the design doesn't help either (the Airsense 11 has a round base plate which is an improvement) though. Perhaps, Resmed outsources chamber manufacture to different suppliers, depending on the market served. That would explain the variability in users' experiences here.

I have been using it for years with no problem whatsoever.

I was just looking at threads about that recently. Some people have had better luck replacing with the "dishwasher safe" version, with the gray handle. Others put a bead of foodsafe glue around the metal. They can also leak at the outlet valve, which is replaceable.

Are you filling the chamber while it is hot? Otherwise I can't see tap water making a difference besides the need to clean mineral deposits occasionally. For those I assume you just soak them out with vinegar verse scrubbing them out.

I'm still on my first chamber but have a spare when needed.

Last month I obtained a new AirCurve 10 Vauto which came with a newly designed chamber that has a round heating plate. It seems for the last couple of years the new A10's have come with a round heating plat to replace the old square plate. There is still a lot of old stock out and when ordering a new chamber you may still get the old style. The part number is the same. The redesign may have been driven by reports of leaks but over 8 years of cpap use I have accumulated 4 chambers, all with the square heating plate and so far none have leaked.

Interesting... can you post a photo of that? Thanks!
Still huffing on the magic machine.
