Hybrid Mask and Deviated Septum

Hybrid Mask and Deviated Septum
Has anyone tried a hybrid (F40, F30, F30i) and experienced excess pressure and irritation inside the nose due to a deviated septum?  If so, were you able to find a way to resolve the issue and continue using the mask?  I tried heated hose, more humidity and I use nasal sprays on a regular basis.  My nose breathing is much better since being on CPAP, but sadly it doesn't seem to be good enough for a hybrid/nasal mask.

I really like the smaller design of the hybrid masks and they are easier to sleep on your side with.  I also wanted to give my nose bridge a break a couple times a week.  My ENT advised against hybrid and nasal masks after seeing the irritation/swelling inside my nose.  I'm back using the FFM F20 Air touch and my nose has gotten better, but the mask is bulky and not as comfortable to wear as the smaller designs.  Very frustrating....  I guess I gotta use what works.  Smile

Thanks.

I use the F30 with no problem. I also have sinus problems. A F30 is considered a full face mask and I don't see it being a problem for me. It's not like there is a blast of high pressure air.

I'm using the Fisher and Paykel Evora Full hybrid. Works fine with my deviated septum.

RE: Hybrid Mask and Deviated Septum
Thanks for the replies. That's great that you don't have issues with them.  I decided to give up on hybrid masks.

I saw my ENT today on another issue and ENT asked me to stop trying the hybrid masks.  ENT said hybrid masks are similar to nasal pillows/nasal masks as the air is blown more directly into the nose than with other style FFMs.  ENT said some people with deviated septum do just fine with pillows/nasal masks and hybrids while others have considerable discomfort, pressure, blocked sinuses and pain which can lead to nasal wall collapse if cartilage is weak.  This did happen to me when I used the Evora last year, which I forgot about.  ENT said I would have to explore surgical options if I wanted to make CPAP more tolerable, but warned there is no guarantee and results are mixed.

It's sad and frustrating that the ENT seems to know more about CPAP issues than my sleep doctor.  I was getting constant bouts of benign positional vertigo before CPAP, then after being on CPAP, I noticed the vertigo stopped and I haven't had it in over a year.  The ENT knew about the correlation between CPAP and BPPV improvement, and now seems to know more about masks than my sleep doctor.  Sleep doctor was oblivious to both issues. Maybe need a new sleep doc.  Wink
