RE: The Medical Mafia and Worse
I have to agree with PaytonA. There's good and bad in every grouping in society. Having said that I get a bit p'd off with the special rules doctors have. For example, I've had my tests (initial and then pressure testing) and I'm still waiting to see the respiratory doctor so I can get my letter of approval and script to go and buy a machine (an APAP, from what the technician said after the second test) ...it's been a number of weeks now. I can't understand why he can't just mail me a letter so I can go and buy the machine. In the meantime I suffer! It's not as if I won't go and see the doctor again and the delay is, in my case, quite dangerous because my apnoea is very bad (supposedly).
The other thing which p's me off is having to go through the GP to get to see a specialist (that's how things work in Australia...dunno about the US, UK, EU and Canada). To me it's almost a rubber stamp process... "Yes, you have these symptoms and I will give you a letter of referral...that'll be X amount of dollars for the consultation." I met an Iraqi doctor once who told me that back when things worked in Iraq you did not need to see a GP before seeing a specialist...you just went along and saw the specialist of your choice. I'd prefer that system.
