Import S+ sleep state data into SleepyHead

Import S+ sleep state data into SleepyHead
Hi,
I'm a new forum member, having recently been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. I'm due to start a CPAP trial on 6th Jan. In the meantime I've been reading up on treatments and tools to help understand/optimise treatment.

While waiting for my sleep study/diagnosis I've been monitoring SPO2 levels with a Contec CMS50F. I also monitored my sleep using a Resmed S+ and developed an Excel spreadsheet to combine the SPO2 data and sleep state data. While the S+ doesn't directly support exporting data if I view the detailed days data in the portal and view the HTML source it is easy to identify the useful data and copy it into Excel. I found this interesting/useful as it showed the majority of SPO2 desaturation events occur during REM sleep with very few in deep sleep (with an intermediate and similar amount in light sleep and while awake).

This got me thinking that it may be useful to combine this data with data from my CPAP treatment when it starts. From this forum the SleepyHead software seems to be the way to analyse CPAP data (hopefully the NHS will issue a compatible machine). SleepyHead allows SPO2 data to be imported, but not S+ data (I see there is a feature request for this, though looking at recent updates from the developer I think there's a lot of other higher priority work to do). However, I did notice that it has a function to import similar data from the discontinued ZEO sleep monitor. This got me thinking if I could convert the S+ data into the format required by the SleepyHead ZEO import routine I should be able to get the sleep state data recorded by S+ into Sleepyhead.

I've managed to write an Excel spreadsheet into which I can paste the data from my S+ and have it produce a tab/sheet that I can export as a CSV file that SleepyHead will import as if it was ZEO data.

While I'm still testing this spreadsheet it does appear to work and I've imported my last few days data and can view a sleep-state graph along with SPO2 data in SleepyHead:

After some more testing I intend to post this spreadsheet, in the meantime I'd be interested to know if others think this would be useful?

RE: Import S+ sleep state data into SleepyHead
Welcome

I'm sure it would be. I doubt you would be the only person on Earth using that equipment. It's bound to help out others. Smile
Using FlashAir W-03 SD card in machine. You can download your data through wifi with FlashPAP or Sleep Master utilities.

I wanted to learn Binary so I enrolled in Binary 101. I seemed to have missed the first four courses. Big Grinnie

Stick it to the man, Download OSCAR and take back control of your data!

Thanks Ian. Like I didn't have enough Honey-Do projects to tackle. Mornincoffee

Bump from the dead.... anybody get a copy of this?  It will save me some work having to recreate the wheel.

I've searched around, but can't find it...

RE: Import S+ sleep state data into SleepyHead
I was taught that sleep stage data and REM sleep could only be determined by an EEG combined with other sensor data.

How is it that the ResMed S+ purports to derive this information from breathing and movement data?

Or are we looking at correlation (averages based on a sampling of tested patients) that purports to indicate causation?

I think what I am asking is: is this thing worth the price and is it somehow more accurate than other apps which purport to show sleep stages but are said to be wildly inaccurate?
