The unit had been working fine in Turkey for the past 3 months so the current must be ok. Good advice about using a surge protector.

Question: How typical is it for the power supply to fail like this? Is this a consumable like the nose pads and filters?

In my experience, the power adapter is more likely to fail than any other component. The reason most manufacturers make it an external, easily replaced component is that it is very easy and cheap to replace in that configuration, compared to an internal adapter.

I have the same machine you do and my ( power brick),had just went out,the machine is just 2 years old ...out of warranty.But I was very lucky I have an excellent DME. they replaced it anyway(they have there ways around warranty i'm sure).
Mine would not have be covered by my insurance , I believe they look at it as the machine so they will only change every 5 years.

I'm happy to say that the problem was indeed the power supply. I now have a new power supply and my cpap is once again working fine.
