Is $6,800 reasonable cost for a sleep study?

Is $6,800 reasonable cost for a sleep study?
Finally, the bills arrived.
They're charging me $6,800 for the overnight sleep study and ASV titration. With my $4000 deductible it's going to hurt.
Is that a reasonable charge for one night in a pretty mediocre hotel room? Yeah, they had all those funky wires and a dude to listen to me snoring all night, but seven grand for one night? It doesn't feel right. For 7 grand I could have spent a much more interesting night in Las Vegas!
Does it really cost that much?  Huh

Folks, what were your overnight sleep study costs?
Thanks!

That's about what my study cost was in 2014. What they bill insurance for isn't necessarily what they receive. It's usually a fraction of what's billed.

Unfortunately, you have a high deductible, so most of that falls on you.

Ridiculous amount. My doc charged $1k 18 months ago. $6,800 is robbery IMO. Hopefully your facility is in-network if you have PPO/HMO insurance and that amount is deeply discounted. You don't pay deductibles on 'charged' amounts. You pay it on a negotiated amount after applicable provider discounts.

I guess it depends on the place, the provider, and the culture locally. The unfortunate fact is that if gubmint or a co-pay is involved, the bills will be bloated...severely. It happens everywhere. I believe a top notch polysomnography shouldn't run more than about $3-4K for the seven/eight hours of staff and premises use, the equipment amortization, and the specialist's fee for his/her imprimatur. The figure quoted above is excessive by about $1.5K in my estimation.

But, they can charge whatever they wish to.

A bit different as the sleep studies were being billed to Medicare and insurance. My insurance picked up the balance of what Medicare didn't cover.

Initial sleep study and then followed with one with CPAP titration. This was performed at a hospital sleep lab.

I had two in office sleep studies done this past February, this first one was $2100.00 (with o2) and the second one was $2400.00, (with cpap) my co-pay was $30.00 each. $6800.00 seems outrageous...

A $30 co-pay per test is INCREDIBLY lucky.   Almost unheard of.
