Lunesta / Zopiclone + CPAP = No REM sleep?
#1
Question
Lunesta / Zopiclone + CPAP = No REM sleep?
Hi everyone,

Long story short, I've been on ASV therapy for over 8 months. A couple of months ago, I caught Covid for the first time, and since then, the efficacy of ASV therapy has sharply declined to the point where I’ve spent many nights unable to fall asleep at all. This had never happened before.

I’m certain the cause is physiological, not psychological—I’m not under significant stress, and I can generally relax and unwind at bedtime without any issues.

Things got so bad that I reluctantly tried the Zopiclone pills my doctor had prescribed. They worked very well at first, and I managed to fall asleep after three nearly sleepless nights.

However, a few days later, I started experiencing issues during early-morning REM sleep. I could sleep fine for the first 5 hours, but as soon as I entered REM-dominant sleep, I’d wake up instantly and wouldn’t be able to fall back asleep. It’s hard to pinpoint what’s happening, but it feels as though the ASV air is getting trapped in my mouth.

I’ve tried adjusting various settings, from the lowest to the highest, and even tried CPAP mode, but nothing seems to help.

For now, I’m starting to taper off the Zopiclone, as I suspect it might be causing these issues.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?
