Mask Miseries

This is going to sound silly, anyway that is what I thought when I read about it on site.  First I could not find a mask I could use because of my mouth being open.  I did try chin strap, collar, tape - nothing worked then I read on this site a method called "tongue suck".  It is pretty simple you put your tongue on the top of your mouth and give a little suck to hold in place.  That is all it is and I use it, solved everything.

Now of course nothing is that simple - you have to train your tongue to stay there when you are asleep.  You do that by doing it during the day time and you keep doing it and after a while your tongue is just naturally stays on the top of your mouth blocking the air from going in and out of the mouth.

Like I said I thought that was nuts and would never work but it did and still does it me.  I use a  nasal mask no leaks.

I’ve used all of them and the f40 is on another level in terms of comfort. If comfort is priority check it out. I wish I could get used to full face but they always leak.

Stacey I have a class 3 bite and I used to put my tongue through my teeth when I sleep.  It works too, but I wake up with bite marks on my tongue

Although the F40 might not currently be available in NZ, I would venture to bet it's coming soon. It's a brand new mask design, only just hit the market in the US.

Yep most things filter down here eventually!   A couple of questions if anyone can advise?  The  f30i has the air tubes running up the sides , so how does that work with side sleeping?  Do you lie on the tubes?

And re the f40,  l can ask someone to bring it back for me from the US, but there is a risk about getting the right size.  Small is definitely the right size for me in f20 so would it follow that small would also be right in the f40?  Sorry l know it's a dumb question, and that trying on for size is the only real way to know, but thought maybe someone has a thought about this.

Also, do you all think that the hybrid masks are better, worse,  or the same at coping with higher pressures?

I'm still not getting really satisfactory results with my f20, . l need to up my pressure but l just think (know) my mask will leak.

When I wear the design where the hose goes to the top of the head, I invariably end up smacking the top knot into the headboard, and the mask goes awry.

Before I put the mask (F40) on, I now wipe both the mask and my mouth/nose area with a CPAP wipe. It makes the mask practically GLUE to my face.

FWIW I can yell at the dog, mouth wide open, and my mask doesn’t go leaky.

Yes you do lie on the tubes, but the air just goes back around the other side and into your mask.  I sleep on my side and use the Philips version of the f30i and I have not had an issue getting enough air or anything like that.

Ok thanks for that TBSon,,  but do the tubes not press into your face/scalp? Or are the tubes soft and squash down when you lie on them??

Thanks HalfAsleep,  I also have occasion to converse with the dog in the middle of the night   .  I guess the seals on the f40 are the same stuff as on the f20 airfit, ie silicone.

They are soft silicone and so they squash down.  I do have lines on my face when I wake up, but they're gone shortly and that also depends on how tightly you wear the mask too.
