This is my third try at CPAP, and I can’t get above 2-3 hours per night after two months. It is better than I have done before, but I need to be able to use it more. I’m getting an SD card for Oscar, but I think comfort with the mask and dealing with mask leaks are issues for me.

Mask fittings/changes
I am using CPAP, but I want to try a different mask. My DME supplier says they only do an initial fitting. And at that fitting they only allowed me to try one mask on. Is this typical? How could I find someone who would be more helpful with this?

RE: Mask fittings/changes
Take a look at the first supplier on the forum supplier list. I believe they let you order masks which can be returned (now discarded) if they do not work for you. I have tried and returned (discarded after Covid) a few different masks. Of course you need to to pay for them up front but are quickly credited when you request. I believe they must have some arrangement with the manufacturers to eat some or part of the costs of that program. My Medicare DME allowed me to try three masks when I first got a CPAP machine.

RE: Mask fittings/changes
Thanks for the response! The supplier is out of stock with the one I want to try, but I’ll keep an eye out for them. I didn’t think to see if my insurer allows more than one. I’ll check into that, too.
What’s ironic is that, had they been more helpful in finding a workable mask the first time, they could have been making a profit off of me for several years already. I would have been ordering supplies all this time. |
