Mouth Tape Trick for Wimps (like me)
#31
RE: Mouth Tape Trick for Wimps (like me)
I had a reminder about a year ago....
Heart procedure. They used my right wrist. Finished, they put on brown "3M" tape. It worked well. Blood stayed inside. Within a couple of days it was itchy as anythng. Strange yellow colour on my wrist.

I worked for 3M Canada for 15 years. Back then I was allergic to "Magic Mending Tape" that had solvent based adhesive. Guess I still have this allergy.

I react to clear bandaids sometimes with redness and even hives. Not sure if they are solvent based but that would make sense given my reaction.

Another way to remove tape without pain is to wet it with baby oil until the tape is saturated. Then get your finger underneath and push the tape and the tape should slide off the skin. Add more oil if it feels tight or is sticking as you are pushing.

@TechieHippy

Way back they had a program, "Pollution Prevention Saves". They made some new products that had water based adhesives.
I'm glad they made that change.
I wish that they identified whether tape contained solvents.
I get hives from it too.

And 3M was where I lost my hearing.

Sorry to hear that, Dave. Chemical sensitivity is difficult. Mine was triggered by exposure to toxic mold combined with a big exposure to aerosolized primer paint. It would be nice if I would get less sensitive but I don't expect it will. I have found workarounds and supplements and such that help, and as we get older we all have something!

(Rant removed. I still have strong feelings about working at that plant.) Thanks for your answer.

I'm careful what i put on my lips. But I do have issues with mouth breathing.

I need 2-inch wide tape cut to about 5-1/2 inches.  Narrower or shorter and I still leak.  My favorite tape is Theraband Kinesiology tape because it is quite stretchy and adheres well to my facial contours.  I apply the tape over the center of my lips, then grin and ensure it adheres to every curve.  Also, it's pretty.  What's not to like?  Smile
